Historical Romance

Inverness, Scotland - 1820

Morrigan Drummond trains daily with the Highlanders of Dalmigavie Castle. Morrigan fled to the highlands with her step-mother, Isabella, and Isabella's sister Maisie when Morrigan's father was murdered by the henchmen of Sir Rupert Burney, an English spymaster. Seething with hatred for the man and all that he stands for, Morrigan won't let anyone hurt her or her family ever again. Now that she is living with Isabella and her husband, Cinead, and knows that Cinead is the secret grandson of the Bonnie Prince, Morrigan is well aware of how much danger they could potentially be in. But now, after a skirmish in Inverness when Morrigan spots the man she has hated and feared for years, she meets, in fraught circumstances, a barrister who is in Inverness to defend victims of Burney's machinations. Why did he prevent her from killing the man?

Aidan Grant is stunned when he encounters a very angry, and knife wielding young woman in an alley who seems determined to stab a fleeing man. When he discovers who she is, Aidan hopes to convince her to help him in his defense of two innocent young men who have been set up by Sir Rupert Burney. Aidan is also entranced by Morrigan, her strength of character, and her beauty. But she is anything but entranced by Aidan at first, which puts a damper on their initial relationship.

Once Morrigan is convinced that what Aidan is doing is both honorable and necessary to save the lives of the two brothers who have been set up, she warms to him, but is determined to keep his attentions at arm's length. Aidan is even more determined to ignore Morrigan's evasiveness! But they have a lot of work to do to help the brothers, as well as to somehow find out who is putting up caricatures of Cinead around Inverness, and why.

HIGHLAND SWORD wraps up the Royal Highlander trilogy about three amazingly strong women and the men who come to love them. I would highly recommend reading the books in order starting with HIGHLAND CROWN, then HIGHLAND JEWEL, to get to know Isabella and Maisie. Beautifully written, HIGHLAND SWORD is a very satisfying ending to the series. What can be more enjoyable than a romance set in the Scottish highlands?
