Q & A with...Gayl Taylor!

Tell us about your newest release.

Tea For Three is a flirt that I wrote as part of the Wonderland Tales collection in honor of Breathless Press turning 5. It is my interpretation (with a bit of a gender switch) of the Mad Hatter, Cheshire Cat, and White Rabbit, in this case, Hatter, Bunny, and Cat. The story follows Bunny and her inability to arrive on time for tea. There are always delightful consequences in the form of punishment from her lover, Hatter. Of course he manages to find ways to keep her on her toes.

What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your story?

When I began plotting this tale, I heard Bunny’s voice loud and clear. It took a surprising turn in the form of girl on girl and I wasn’t entirely sure I could pull it off. I have read both m/m and f/f books and enjoy them but the thought of writing anything close was hard at first. Once I got started, the ease with which the words came surprised me.

Do you have any interesting or quirks or rituals?

I don’t think I have any quirks but I do have a writing ritual in the form of Pinterest. I’ve never been great at plotting but I do like to build a character profile before I begin writing. This would include pictures, habits, likes, dislikes, etc that I create for all my characters. Knowing my characters intimately can help me tell their story (when they aren’t shouting in my ear, that is).

What authors or friends influenced you in helping you become a writer?

I’ve always been a writer but several years ago I used to write stories online with a group of friends. Some of them were well received and I got a lot of feedback regarding writing with a focus on becoming published. It had always been a dream of mine so I thought why not? My first story was for the Breathless Press Naughty Nursery Rhyme line (the story for how that came about is also rather funny). My friends and family encouraged me to follow that dream and I don’t regret one day of it.

What does your family think about your career as a published author?

My parents are happy I achieved this goal but haven’t actually read my work. My sons (I have three) are extremely supportive and proud of me. They’ve told their friends and bragged about their “author mom” even though they tease me mercilessly about the romance I write. I supposed there is a squick factor to it for them. At one point son #2 was reading over my shoulder and calmly asked if I was writing porn (I did explain the difference although I’m not sure he was still in the room by the time I finished). But overall, they are proud and supportive.

Besides writing, what other interests do you have?

Aside from writing I love photography and music. And food. I am slowly learning there is food beyond meat and potatoes. I am also an avid sports fan and can be found rooted in front of the TV watching baseball or football.

Can you tell us what is coming up next for you?

I am working on a few stories for a themed holiday submission as well as revising some stories I began a while ago and set aside. I think it’s time to dust them off and polish them.

How can readers connect with you online?

I am usually on Facebook but there are a few other places where I can be found:

Punctuality is not a high priority for Bunny, especially when the penance for her tardiness is so sweet.
Teatime for Bunny and Hatter is their playtime. Hatter stresses his desire for her to be on time but she can't seem arrive when expected. As a result, he devises delightful punishments full of exquisite torture and mutually satisfying.
One afternoon, Bunny plans a naughty little treat for Hatter. She is late as usual and fully expects him to punish her wilful disregard. Imagine her surprise when she returns home for tea only to find Hatter with a wicked gleam in his eyes and a stranger curled up in her favorite chair with a most unusual grin.

A barely-there smile lifted the corners of her mouth as she considered the punishment for her tardiness. Hatter would not be pleased she was late again. What would he issue as penance for her willful disregard for his wishes? Spank her or withhold her climax? Perhaps he'd bind her to the bed and torture her with his hands and tongue. Oh yes! Berenice greatly enjoyed their afternoon tea. She could imagine his rumbling voice and scorching gaze as he admonished her. Bunny, as he liked to call her, you've again tried my patience. I shall need to spank you for your deliberate disregard for my instructions. Remove your panties, bring me my paddle, and bend over my lap. Berenice giggled like a naughty schoolgirl. Hatter invented the most delightful punishments. What will he say when he realizes she isn't wearing her panties?
Time hardly passed as she strolled along the trail and arrived at their small cottage in the woods. Brilliant pink, orange, and purple hues colored the late afternoon sky. Tomorrow would prove to be another delightful day if the sky was any indication. However, Berenice looked forward to this evening's delights. She'd never before experienced an all-consuming, passionate relationship. Hatter introduced her to a wonderland of sensual delights. Berenice reveled in his dominance, but Hatter was more than a commanding presence. He cared for her, saw to her needs, and gave her everything emotionally and physically. Now, Berenice scarcely remembered a time when they weren't together. She paused at the door and took a moment to smooth the skirt of her cotton sundress. Drawing a calming breath, she turned the doorknob and entered.

Gayl Taylor spent much of her youth daydreaming and making up stories. Life in her imaginary world was full of adventure, intrigue, and romance. Temporarily distracted by real life, marriage, three kids, and the necessary paycheck, she found her way back to writing as a hobby and eventually pursued her dream of being a published author.
Although she still has her day job, at night Gayl writes steamy, sensual romance. Her passion for music and sports feeds her imagination inspiring her to write about smoking hot rock stars, sexy athletes, and the women who bring them to their knees. She has three titles published with Breathless Press, Ride a Cock Horse, part of the Naughty Nursery Rhyme line, The Hero Sandwich, and Tea for Three, part of the Wonderland Tales collection.
A native California girl, Gayl lives in the San Francisco Bay Area with her three sons and Ozzy, their aloof but loving cat. She is a self-proclaimed coffee addict, closet rock star, die-hard baseball fan, and hopeless romantic.
