Q&A with Rick R. Reed and a giveaway!

Tell us about your newest release.

That’s why we write blurbs (below)! This one is a dark love story, set in the same world I set my previous MLR Press release, TRICKS, in. There’s a little suspense, some mystery—and a powerful love story.

On the worst day of his life, Wren Gallagher loses his wallet, his job, and his security. Can a stranger met in a bar deliver on his promises of wealth and meeting Mr. Right?

Sex can be a dangerous business. So can love....

On the worst day of his life, Wren Gallagher wants oblivion when he steps into Tricks for a drink. He's lost not only his job, but his wallet as well. When a mysterious stranger steps up to pay his tab, he also offers Wren the key to fulfilling his dreams of prosperity and true love. But appearances are not always what they seem....

His savior is the owner of the escort agency, A Louer---and he wants the young and handsome Wren to work for him. So down on his luck, Wren figures---why not? He can use the money. When he joins, though, he hadn't counted on meeting Rufus, another escort with whom he quickly falls hopelessly in love.

But their love story will have to overcome the obstacles of not only trading love for money, but A Louer's dark---and deadly---secrets.

What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your story?

That professional male escorts can find great love in the world—and great hate. Sex for commerce is a dangerous business and not one I envy anyone.

What authors or friends influenced you in helping you become a writer?

I have been a writer all my life—really, from about the age of 6, when I wrote my first short story. Through all the years, there has been one constant in my life—books. I am never, never NOT reading a book. Through all those thousands of books, I think I’ve learned a lot about craft, about motivation, and writing—both through a kind of literary osmosis and direct, critical observation. My favorite writers (because they are both dark and, paradoxically, often hopeful) are Ruth Rendell, Patricia Highsmith, Flannery O’Connor and, yes, Stephen King.

Besides writing, what other interests do you have?

I love to cook. It relaxes me and I love nothing more than feeding people—I guess it’s the nurturing side of me. I do my best with things that I learned from my Sicilian mother (I make a mean red sauce) and simply throwing things together to create something unique. I love this time of year (chilly) which is great for the kind of food I love to cook best—comfort.

Can you tell us about what’s coming up in the next year for you writing wise?

I am now working on the sequel to my chubby chaser romance, CHASER. It’s called called RAINING MEN and it’s about a sexually-addicted young man, Bobby, who discovers that, before he can actually find real love, and not just sex, he must first find out how to love himself. Bobby is the most hateful character in CHASER and RAINING MEN is all about making readers love him. Not the easiest challenge, but I know I’m up to it.

Hi! ooooo! yeah! another Rick Reed book. I enjoyed Chaser - but not as much as other Rick Reed stories - I think the weight issue is too close to home for me (though in reverse of the story) - I love the romance though and the HEA!!! Looking forward to Rent!

I've been working my way through Rick's backlist and I'm reading Penance right now :)

I can't imagine loving Bobby from Chaser! It will be tough to change my mind about him but I'm sure that Rick will somehow pull it off.
