What was once the Northwest United States – 3033

Earth is once more a paradise but the population has dwindled. Freedom fighters, sentient beings from other worlds, are welcome to come and find mates with the idea of repopulation.

Falon March, an architect, has had time to design and build a home for herself and her intended mate, Zane Orros, who is from Dacor. Weary of fighting, he gladly agreed to the terms of his immigration and citizenship. The two have communicated with each other several times during the more than five years his journey has taken him to reach Earth. Neither is prepared for the instant attraction they feel.

Falon is beautiful beyond Zane’s dreams. Zane, who is gray all over and vaguely resembles a gargoyle, is handsome like some ancient god. Except for his skin tone and wings, he is like any man. Falon and Zane are more than physically compatible…they share an intelligent curiosity about most things and a wonderment for life. Of course there are some physical and cultural differences, and newlyweds, especially those who have just met in person, don’t always know everything to share.

Vasty Small, who has a four year old daughter with her alien mate, Danor, has just discovered that he has a shapeshifting ability that makes her sick, so she leaves him and their little girl. Because of this, Zane is hesitant to tell Falon everything about his own past.

Zane’s best friend, Sephos is a physician and is married to human, Constance Borden. Zane turns to them for advice when an unexpected occurrence in his physicality leaves him near death and he is unsure how to face Falon with the information. But missed communications and

Misunderstanding what she sees has Falon turning on Zane and he goes to live in the city after taking a job with Earth Defence Corp at the urging of Captain Meager Prospect.

Then disaster comes in the form of the enemies Zane, Sephos, and Danor fought against so show up and threaten Earth. Will Earth Defence be able to save the perfect world that has survived so much turmoil in its turbulent past? Will Falon and Zane get back the love and care they once had?

General Obrigar Trent and Falon’s sister, Selene, a reporter, play important parts in this tale of impending disaster that may end up with life in ruins. The love between Zane and Falon is hot, hot, hot with interludes of sweetness. I love this pairing and all the hope that comes with that love. C. S. Chatterly has penned an imaginative, adrenalin pumping adventure with alacrity and care. I am giving it a La Grande Mort.

Spotlight Review- JADEN'S WICKED WITCH by Calista Fox

Ellora's Cave www.ellorascave.com
ISBN: 978-1-41991-583-3
August 2008
Erotic Paranormal Romance – Short Story

Material World - Present Day

Jaden's a charming warrior who has served the Oracle for centuries, and therefore takes his latest assignment with no pressure. That is until the Oracle tells Jaden that the new Oracle for the magickal realm happens to be her daughter. And here Jaden thought oracles were virginal women. What's worse is that Jaden has to go to the material realm and persuade Devinia to return with him. But Devinia has no intention of returning to a realm ruled by outdated laws. She's perfectly content as she is...even if a bit unfulfilled in the sex department. Can these two polar opposites really be the magickal realms saving grace?

A fiercly independent woman meets her match in JADEN'S WICKED WITCH.

Although at first I had reservations about Devinia's lack of emotional connection when it came to sex, l was happy to see her attitude change once she met Jaden.

She has no need for men except for the most basic of pleasures; she doesn't even want to know their names. Yet Jaden is different, immune to her wants, and just as sensual as she is. Together they face their destiny together in Calista Fox's latest.

Romantic Suspense

Jacksonville, Florida – The Present

During the last two years, Ashley Adams has pulled her life back together after ten years in an abusive marriage. Part of recovering her self-confidence includes running, and she now trains for a marathon in Washington, D.C. After Peter nearly killed her, she left him, but even with the divorce official, he still believes she will return to him. He'll make her.

Early one morning, Ashley and her coach are running when a car nearly runs them down. What she takes for an engine backfire is a gunshot. Paul Stoddard, owner of the lucrative Stoddard Appliance store chain, had been on his porch to pick up his morning paper. Now he is dead. His wife seems unmoved at his demise.

Detective Rick Edwards is called to the scene of the shooting. He recognizes the witness although he doubts Ashley remembers him. He was called to her house on a domestic disturbance. She ignored his advice to press charges. Since that call, his young daughter has died of Leukemia, followed by his wife’s suicide.

After another attack where her coach is injured and two break-ins of her condo, Ashley's ex comes under suspicion. Rick provides protection, but he isn't quite prepared for the effect Ashley has on him. Then she comes under suspicion for a different murder.

RUNNING SCARED delivers on both romance and suspense. The writing creates such a realistic world that everything seems ultimately logical in twisted and unexpected ways. Ashley’s and Rick’s horrible pasts quickly bring the reader into empathy with them both. The air between them sizzles with underlying sexual tension to which neither wishes to succumb. The well-developed secondary characters of Peter; Ashley’s coach and friend Marvin; and Rick’s new partner, Logan, add great foils to the hero and heroine. The characters who come under suspicion of murder, including Ashley, create sharp suspense. Then, once the crimes are solved, the question remains: will Ashley and Rick act on their desires, or will they let their past failures haunt them?

Excellent writing, characters trying to grow beyond their previous limitations, along with a thrilling plot earn RUNNING SCARED an RRT Perfect 10.

Spotlight Review - TIED UP, TIED DOWN by Lorelei James

TIED UP, TIED DOWN - Lorelei James
Rough Riders, Book 4
Samhain http://www.samhainpublishing.com/
ISBN: 1-60504-064-9
July 2008 Erotic Contemporary Romance

Sundance and Moorcroft , Texas - Present Day

Skylar Ellison owns her own business where she makes lotions, creams and soaps from her late grandmother's recipes. One night in town she lets Kane McKay know how much fun she did not have on their lousy date. "Kane" apologizes and asks to make it up to her. During the next few weeks their relationship gets pretty close and they make love in his pick-up truck.

Kade McKay, Kane's identical twin brother, knows that he should have told Skylar his real name, but he's mistaken for his twin so often that he doesn't think it's a big deal, at least not until he falls in love with Skylar. Before he can give Skylar his real name, she finds out from someone else and the break-up sends him to a remote part of the family ranch for a year to lick his wounds.

TIED UP, TIED DOWN is a fabulous tale of two people trying to make a family for their much-loved, if unexpected, baby. Several weeks after Kade leaves town, Skylar learns that she is pregnant and she's unable to get in touch with Kade. When he comes home he is shocked and thrilled to be a daddy. Unfortunately for him, Skylar is no where near ready to kiss and make up. Skylar does allow Kade to move in and try to play Daddy but the two can't quite put their hormones on hold and they literally get TIED UP, TIED DOWN in their passion. But will lust be enough for these two stubborn people to make a family?

Three month old Eliza is only the second McKay girl born in a hundred and twenty-three years. She might be a secondary character, but she is the rope that holds her parents together. Kimi McKay, Kade's mother, is a fabulous grandmother and future mother-in-law. She and Skylar's sister, India , add humor to the story and a good dose of common sense when the lovers need it. Kane is the no-good, selfish, ladies man who starts looking to change his reputation.

TIED UP, TIED DOWN is full of passion and romance. The conflict is all internal as the lovers settle their differences. Kade shows Skylar just how good a cowboy can be with his rope. Readers who enjoy a little bondage will love this book. I recommend this book for a sexy read.

Spotlight Review- HOSTAGE TO PLEASURE by Nalini Singh

Psy-Changeling, Book 6
Berkley Sensation
ISBN: 978-0-425-22325-3
September 2008
Paranormal Romance

California; the Canadian Rockies; and Moscow, Russia - 2080

It has been over a century since the Psy Council instituted Silence, the program intended to eliminate all emotions in the Psy, thus ridding them of the unfortunate tendency a few had to become serial killers. But, of course, we all know that Silence didn’t work for everyone. Some still became psychopaths, and some...well, some never really became Silenced.

Dorian Christensen is one of the DarkRiver pack’s most dangerous sentinels. Though the changeling leopard is latent (he can’t actually take the form of his animal half), Dorian retains the traits of his cat, including its protective, possessive, nature. Unfortunately for the Psy, one of their own kidnapped, brutally tortured, and murdered his younger sister leaving this cat with a burning need to end them all. Then came Ashaya, a Psy who, along with her son, needs Dorian’s protection.

Ashaya Aleine is one of the Psy’s most talented medical people. The only one who can fully develop the new Psy implant intended to create a hive mind, Ashaya wants no part of it. Too bad then that the Psy have taken her son hostage to force her to cooperate. And Keenan isn’t her only vulnerability, her twin sister Amara is another weakness in Ashaya’s armor. The final flaw in this Psy? Well, that would be the fact that Silence never took for her, leaving her caught in a world where showing emotion is reason enough to have your mind wiped clean in a “rehabilitation” program.

Can Dorian, who has every reason to despise the Psy, really commit himself to saving two of them? And what about Ashaya, how will she handle the undeniable emotions the cat brings out in her? Only time will tell.

In HOSTAGE TO PLEASURE, Nalini Singh brings together two people who have nothing in common and manages to make it seem completely natural that they’d end up together. Dorian’s motto may well be “never surrender”, so it makes sense then that he’s managed to retain his sanity since his sister’s murder (albeit with help from his pack, which includes some Psy mates among its members). But then he meets Ashaya and discovers a driving need to possess her, so, as always, he’s determined not to give in. After all, if he fell for a Psy, it would be a betrayal of his sister’s memory, wouldn’t it? Though Ashaya has always felt emotions that she shouldn’t, passion wasn’t among them, at least it wasn’t until she met Dorian. Being the intelligent woman that she is, it doesn’t take long for Ashaya to admit to herself that she could be falling in love with him. But Ashaya knows that the secret she’s kept for most of her life could prevent Dorian from ever returning her feelings. And, of course, there’s the added complication of the Psy Council’s determination to recover Ashaya or to destroy her if it’s the only alternative. The saying about the course of true love never running smooth certainly applies in this case, but c’mon, surely it could be a bit smoother. For Dorian and Ashaya’s sake, of course, not because I spent the entire book sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for the moment when I could finally say, Ahh, they’re together forever now. :-)

Many of the characters from previous Psy-Changeling stories are integral to the plot of this book. Among them are, of course, the many members of the DarkRiver pack, as well as some of the Psy Council members, most notably: Ming LeBon (scummy man responsible for much of Ashaya’s ill treatment by the Psy); Henry and Shoshanna Scott (a couple whose relationship is clearly evolving); and Anthony Kyriakus (the leader of a very quiet revolution). Vasic, a Psy Arrow (law enforcement of a sort) is an interesting fellow; I look forward to learning more about him. Mercy, a DarkRiver sentinel, is happy Dorian seems to have found his mate, unfortunately that leaves her alone with no alpha types in sight to spend some “play time” with. Luckily, her book, BRANDED BY FIRE, is coming next; it promises to be all kinds of interesting. ;-)

If you love this series already, buy this book; if you don’t love the series, you obviously haven’t begun reading it yet. So what are you waiting for? Paranormal romance fans everywhere should have HOSTAGE TO PLEASURE on their book-buying list! Don’t miss this (and the rest of the series listed in order on www.nalinisingh.com). I promise you won’t be disappointed by Nalini Singh, one of the genre’s best and brightest.

Q&A with Cara Carnes!

When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?

I’ve always had an overly active imagination and I grew up in a house with five voracious readers. That passion inspired me to pick up a romance book, unbeknownst to my family, at a really early age. Okay, maybe it wasn’t as much passion that had me pilfering that first book as much as it was blatant curiosity about what I was missing. By the time I was eleven, I was sitting alongside my mother while she pounded out her romance book on a manual typewriter *cringes* writing what I knew would be the romance of all romances. *pause for hysterical laughter*

Needless to say that book never made it onto the shelves, but the fact that my family encouraged me to pursue my dreams even as foolish as they were at the time showed me at an early age that I could do whatever I set my mind to.

Where do you get your information or ideas for your books?

The ideas usually appear in my head as scenes, or a character hatches in my brain that refuses to go away. That seed of inspiration determines where I get the information.

For the book Prince’s Fire, and for the one before it, Warrior’s Paradise, I did significant research into astrological traits because I knew I wanted the princes from that world to carry elements connected with earth, air, fire and water. Using my slightly altered characteristics chart that matched the corresponding astrology sign gave me what I hope is a robust and warm set of brothers with their very unique identities and mannerisms.

What would you say is your interesting writing quirk?

Hmm…I’m not sure that I have any. Of course, I’m sure everyone says that and really does. I do know that I write best with the television on, usually either muted or turned down to where I really can’t hear it. I know, it sounds ridiculous because I can’t hear it, but it’s a habit I’ve gotten into that I just haven’t broken. I always have to have my caffeine, of course. I never stop mid-scene. Ever. I always work on at least two works in process at the same time because it seems to help me remain in the mood to write more.

LOL… I guess I have more quirks than I realized.

What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your books?

Honestly, I think the two things that surprised me the most were that I loved plotting and that writing erotic was easier than I expected it to be. I found that I absolutely loved twisting and turning events around and spinning a world around characters whose sexual chemistry was overwhelming enough to consume them. I learned that the most important aspect of the book has to be the characters, and how they connect with each other within the context they are in. If you don’t have the depth and emotion there, it won’t matter how good your plot is.

What authors or friends influenced you in helping you become a writer?

When I sat down and decided to write Warrior’s Paradise, no one knew what I was doing. I didn’t tell my family or my friends, and I hadn’t joined any writing organizations yet. But I wrote it; then I joined RWA immediately afterwards and began to figure out what on earth I was supposed to be doing from that point.

I do have to say that I belong to two of the most incredibly supportive chapters of the RWA, in my opinion. The authors of Passionate Ink and RWAOnline are phenomenal. I couldn’t list all the authors that took me under their wing and patiently answered all the newbie questions I had, and still have, with more openness and willingness to help than I could have ever imagined.

What does your family think about your career as a published author?

My mother has been my #1 cheerleader all the way so far, and so have the friends that I grew up with. One of them even stayed up until midnight the night my first book came on sale so that she could be one of the first to buy it. When she told me I was more touched than you could imagine because she doesn’t really read romance, much less erotic romance. All of my family and loved ones have been incredibly supportive, and that’s the biggest blessing of all.

What’s coming up next for you writing wise?

I have another release coming out from Loose Id on Oct. 21st titled Weekend Games that I’m really excited about. It’s scorching hot. I also have two other works that are close to being officially taken and I have two single titles completed that I need to find homes for. Right now I’m finishing up another one of the prince stories and will hopefully have it completed very soon.

Excerpt from PRINCE'S FIRE by Cara Carnes

Cara Carnes will be my guest on Thursday. Be sure to pop in and say hello to her! You can purchase PRINCE'S FIRE by clicking this link. In the meantime, here's a sneak peak to wet your appetite.

She looked down into her cart and grimaced at the amount of sugar. The rush would help keep her awake. That and the truckloads of coffee she intended to swallow. Finding Shana was her primary concern. The moment she got back home, she’d retrieve the talisman and utter the chant herself.

It shouldn’t have taken so long for her to put it together.

As she stood there in line trying to drown out the sound of the older gentlemen in front of her arguing with the cashier, Gitana smiled. She remembered her lustful fantasies of the mighty warriors Nana had so revered. Images of virile men vying for the right to sexually gratify her assailed her. Cursing, she glanced down and noticed the six inches of space between her sneakers and the ground. She always levitated when she became overstimulated.

Her inner strength through breathing and meditation cocooned her in serenity. In that environment, her powers remained neutral. She sighed in relief when her feet touched the ground. Turning around to ensure no one had seen, a wall of exposed muscular sun-kissed flesh startled her.

She had always found the male body a fascinating thing, but this one defied belief. Enjoying the rock hard abs and perfect pecs pressed against her chest was a natural response, especially when her gaze leveled with the most impressive shoulders she had ever seen. She backed up slightly.

She moistened her lips as she looked down to the corded thighs and the prominent bulge tucked away so nicely in a pair of jeans. She swallowed as she forced herself to bring her gaze back up to a respectful height.

Sandalwood and musk riddled her senses. His smell beckoned her to embrace him. It made her want to feast on his body. She’d lick, then slide her hands over the corded muscles. That would be the perfect way to forget about her problems.

She had to stop ogling him.

Thinking there was no way this stranger with the body of a god could possibly have a face to match, Gitana almost didn’t want to look. But she did, and quickly lost all ability to breathe. He had the most sensual eyes, flecks of light danced within them. Warm, inviting, captivating. Shoulder length jet-black hair only added to the mysterious aura surrounding this man. It masked his face, setting him apart from the average-looking person. He was different and didn’t care what anyone thought. Threatening, in a way. Yet she couldn’t stop wanting to touch him. His lush, full lips were curved in a barely contained grin. This man reminded her of the warriors in her fantasies of Mysk. Paradise.
She and Shana had shared their wild fantasies about Paradise, where you could make anything become reality. Men just like the one before her had fulfilled her deepest cravings. And he certainly reawakened her fantasies. He’d be a demanding lover. His body alone was sculpted to appease her darkest desires. Strong, dominant.

God, I could spend all night under you. I need someone like you to tire me out so that I can forget my worries. Once wouldn’t be enough to quench my hunger. How would you feed my desires, warrior?

Soft male laughter tumbled in her head. I could think of nothing better than satisfying every hunger you could ever have.

She took a small step backward toward the other end of the register and gasped, her attention focused on his sparkling blue eyes.

“That’ll be sixteen dollars and seventy three cents, ma’am.”

Gitana fumbled through her purse, realizing that the clerk was waiting for her to pay. She tossed a bill toward the cashier, keeping her eyes on the stranger.
It’s not polite to invade one’s private thoughts.

She watched his stance relax. You sent those thoughts to me. I was courteous and replied. You should perhaps be more careful. You never know when someone may actually hear you.

Are you lecturing me?

I could think of a million things I’d love to do to you, Gitana. Lecturing you isn’t anywhere on the list.

How the hell did he know her name? She grabbed her bag and moved toward the exit rapidly.

His deep laughter echoed in her thoughts. Chicken.

How do you know my name? She hated the fearful tone her words were laced with but couldn’t contain it. Something about this man compelled her, but the fact that he knew her name and spoke telepathically concerned her even more.
You forgot the chocolate syrup. Shana said that you always raided the grocery store for sweets when you were worried or stressed. But she was quite clear you always drowned them all in syrup.

He knew Shana.

Rage flared within her, the air sparked in response to her surging power. He had no idea who he was messing with. The automated doors opened and shut rapidly in response to the increasing power flaring from her. Heat poured off her in waves, combating the central air system of the store. Patrons walked past, fanning themselves as they exited.

We will continue discussing this matter in private. I do not care to spend my day altering human memories when I could spend it with your legs wrapped around me.

Now she was really pissed. No one told her what to do, especially in that tone. Who the hell did he think he was to presume he would get anywhere near her after mentioning Shana? She looked around at the cashiers and customers in the small grocery store and knew he made sense.

Altering human minds? Could he do that? If he could, it meant he wasn’t human. The freak of nature needed to tell her what his intentions were. Now.
She backed out of the store. He followed her. She was relieved he kept a slight distance between them. Could he sense her powers building?

She made her way to the alleyway behind the store, intending to get some answers. An awkward pain coursed through her body. He cursed aloud. She glared at him.

“Take us to your secret place now!” He was angry. She fought him when he grabbed her arm and dragged her the rest of the way into the alley.

“Get your hands off of me! Who the hell are you, and what did you do with Shana?” She rubbed the back of her head, unable to ignore the stabbing pain that ran down her spine. Radiating from the center of her bones, it burned its way through her head until an intense throbbing began at her temples. Her vision blurred slightly. “And what the hell are you trying to do to me?”

“That pain you are feeling is not my doing. I feel it as well. The demons have found us because of your power surge. Calm yourself. Envision your hideaway. I can’t take us there without your help. Show me exactly what it looks like and where it is. Fighting them here would endanger too many innocent people.”

“For your information, I can take us wherever the hell I want to.”

“You cannot take more than your body weight plus ten percent, Gitana. Trust me on that. You can prove the truth behind it at a later date. Now, think about your place.Your life depends upon it. Trust me.”

She looked around. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary. Dumpsters filled with broken-down cardboard boxes lined the alley, crates strewn in between. A loud rupturing sound at the end of the alley seized her attention. She whirled around in time to see four creatures walk through a vortex, like something from a sci-fi movie. Their slimy looking skin was partially covered in animal hair. Their eyes were small in proportion to their heads, and they appeared to communicate in a mixture of clicks.

Anger and resentment festered within her, adding to the terror she was trying hard to ignore. This had to be a bad dream. Nothing else made sense. Fear wouldn’t solve the problem, but getting pissed might.

She hurled a fireball at one of the creatures and watched it stumble briefly. The man beside her hurled a stream of liquid at them and she watched in disbelief when it hit the being she had just struck. The water froze instantly and shattered the being into tiny bits.

Fear coursed through her when the other three monsters increased their progression, their clicks and beeps becoming louder. There was a slight push in her head, and the man beside her squeezed her upper arm in a silent request. She looked over at him, closed her eyes, and thought of her open field in the country outside of town. It had served as her training ground. Only she and Shana knew of it.

She felt a strange pull then she was falling on top of him. She looked around, surprised he had managed to get them away from the alley and straight to the place she had envisioned in her mind.

“What were those things? And who the hell are you?” The thick foliage around the clearing moved restlessly in the light breeze. No weird portals or creatures appeared from thin air. Her concern began to dissipate, the surroundings offering a sense of normalcy to the freakish events that had occurred. She knew every inch of this terrain. That had to give her some sort of advantage. She sprang to her feet.

He stood slowly and scanned the area as if memorizing every inch of it. A smile crossed his face as his gaze roamed across her body. Her skin tingled under the perusal. “I am your mate, and I came to bring you home.”

A Perfect 10: SEDUCTION OF A PROPER GENTLEMAN by Victoria Alexander

A Perfect 10
Avon Books
ISBN: 978-0-06-144946-8
September 2008
Historical Romance

England, 1854

Oliver Leighton, the Earl of Norcroft, is mulling over his winnings . He should be happy that he won, but, strangely, he feels no joy. He and three of his friends entered into a wager as to who would be "the last man standing;" in other words, who would be the last bachelor. Despite the fact that Oliver has nothing against marriage -- in fact he hopes to find the love of his life some day soon -- to his surprise, he is still a single man. Fingering the four shillings he "won", and sending the other prize - a fine bottle of cognac back, unopened, Oliver strolls out to his waiting carriage.

The weight of the family rests on her shoulders, and Kathleen MacDavid must somehow convince the Earl of Norcroft to marry her, and soon. A widow, Kathleen has decided that all of the ills that have befallen her since the death of her husband nine years ago are as her aunt and grandmother insist, the fault of the five-hundred year-old family curse. She must marry the last Norcroft or there will be dire consequences. What those consequences are remains a mystery, of course, but Kathleen doesn't want any more bad luck in her life. When she and her aunt travel to the countryside to visit a neighbor of the Norcrofts, something happens to Kathleen that will propel her into the arms of Oliver Leighton.

This was supposed to be a relaxing escape from the City, but Oliver finds a beautiful unconscious woman in the front parlor. His mother is "organizing" things when he arrives, and before long, they have a guest ensconced in their house. When the guest awakens, however, she cannot remember her name or how she came to be there. Oh dear. And she is so lovely. What, muses Oliver, if she's married? She is interesting, if a little vague about things in her past, and she seems rather scholarly, something Oliver isn't. His mother names her Kate, and Oliver thinks she's not only mysterious and beautiful, but she is fun to be with and to talk to...most of the time. Desperate for her son to wed, Lady Norcroft hopes for the best.

SEDUCTION OF A PROPER GENTLEMAN is one of the sweetest, most entertaining romances of the year. Ms. Alexander once again presents her readers with wonderfully rounded characters, from Kathleen and Oliver, all the way to the wise, always proper butler, Hollinger. The witty repartee between the characters had me giggling more than once. Pity poor Oliver, for fate has put him in the country under the subtle machinations of his mother, Kathleen's aunt, and even the butler. It's a destiny he isn't sure he should argue with. Brilliant dialogue, a terrific cast of players, and a delightful premise, what more can a reader ask for?

SEDUCTION OF A PROPER GENTLEMAN is great fun and well deserving of a Perfect 10!

Q&A with Lee Aaron Wilson

You're read his excerpt from Billy Killdeere and now it's time to meet the author behind the book. Give a hearty welcome to Lee Aaron Wilson!

When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?

I've always known I was going to be a writer. In fact, I was writing before I started school, allthough no one could read what I wrote. In the sixth grade, in a two room country school, I started a school newspaper. In high school I was a columnist for the school paper.

Where do you get your information or ideas for your books?

My ideas come from everywhere. It could be an item in the news, or the way a woman glowers at her husband in a bar. A cloud formation while I'm driving can remind me of a hungry dragon.

I'm widely read--all kinds of fiction and nonfiction.

What would you say is your interesting writing quirk?

My mind will pull together an idea, then the facts that support it, and before you know it, I have a book.

What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your books?

I balance humor with pathos, and sometimes include violent action. I'll throw in a romantic scene for a change of pace, or a purely erotic scene just to show a new aspect of a character. My friend, author Kat Martin, calls me the most sensual male writer she knows. I have a twisted sense of humor, am totally schooled in martial arts and violence, and enjoy seeing justice prevail.

What authors or friends influenced you in helping you become a writer?

My grandmother was a writer and she encouraged me to write.
Anyone who fails to appreciate how driven I am to write isn't a friend for long.
My family now is supportive of my writing.

You write westerns, mysteries and romance. Do you have a favorite genre?

I love westerns, but in mine you will always find an element of mystery--a crime to be solved or a puzzle to be unraveled.
And come on, what is any story, western, mystery, science fiction, horror, etc, without romance?
We live for love and romance, so I include romance in my work.

What’s coming up next for you writing wise?

Right now, I'm working on a thriller series. The heroine is a gorgeous, red-haired hit woman who loves kids.
In fact, she takes out people who hurt kids for free.
In the first book, she becomes part of an anti-terrorist team.
I think I'm in love with her!

This week on the RRT blog we will be having an interview with Lee Aaron Wilson. To get you started, I'm posting an excert from his book BILLY KILLDEERE which is available for purchase at Treble Heart Books. You can purchase BILLY KILLDEERE by clicking here.

Excerpt from
Billy Killdeere by Lee Aaron Wilson
(Treble Heart Books, 2008)

from Chapter 13,
“The New Billy”

Out in the yard, the drivers started yelling their teams into motion. Not long now. "Jade, stand with your back to the door, facing me."
My coat covered one gun, I held the other. Footsteps. The door started to open and Carter Desledge said, "My turn yet? What…?"
He looked at Rachel, clothed and conscious. His expression said he'd expected her to be stripped and prone. Jade had lied. He dropped. Desledge drew and fired. Afraid he'd try for Rachel, I shot too quick. I saw the tug at the side of his vest.
Desledge yelped, backed out, and jerked the door shut. I shot through it, twice. We heard the sound of pounding feet on the board porch. He was in the saddle and headed out the gate when I stuck my head outside. I turned back quickly. Jade lunged to his feet and grabbed for the girl, and got claws in his face for his trouble.
Before he could get control, I laid a gun barrel on the back of his head. That took him out of action again. Rachel pounded him about the face a few more times, for good measure. She was mad clear through.
"He was going to assault me. And they were going to kill me." She stopped. "What can you do?"
"We'll play it by the book." I told her. "I don't look like they expect Billy Killdeere to look, and generally don't act like they expect him to act. We'll go to the law."
"I guess that's the right thing to do." Rachel, still scowling, said, "but I'd rather you just shot them all."
Inside, I couldn't argue with her, but this was the new me. I had to go by the book.
The freight wagons had cleared the yard. The man who'd been unconscious in the driveway was sitting up, but hurting. Several men came to the door. Olaf came on in. He looked angry when he entered. He saw Carl lying there bloody and unconscious. "What we do, Boss?"
"Get a spring wagon and throw a mattress in it. Carl Bartlett was shot, and that man has a head injury. Tie up this S.O.B., real good. I'm taking all three in the wagon. The injured two to the doctor, Jade I'll turn over to the sheriff. We'll see what he can do."
"What else?" The mill hands crowding the door were angry. This was their mill and they'd been robbed. "We gotta do something!"
"You post guards, so it can't happen again. You all tell the sheriff exactly what you heard and saw."
Their faces were angry. "That's all? We aren't going after them?"
One of the guns I'd taken from Jade was still in my belt. I stuck the second in beside it and dropped my hands to my sides. "What do you want to do? Hang Jade? Go outside the law? You all know I've got another name and I can use a gun. Do you know there's five thousand dollars on my head, dead or alive? Do any of you want that? I love Jenny, but I can't ask her to marry me. Do you want that kind of thing on your shoulders?"
Olaf stared at me for a whole minute, then turned to the hand nearest him. "You heard the boss, get a wagon. Fred," he pointed at another man, "you were a sailor. Practice your knots on that man the boss and Miss Rachel took. Move. Scotty, help Thompson, he's hurting."

Spolight Review: WHISPERS IN THE DARK by Kira Sinclair

Harlequin Blaze #415
ISBN (13): 978-0-373-79419-5
ISBN (10): 0-373-79419-3
August 2008
Contemporary Series Romance

Birmingham, Alabama ~ Present Day

Years ago, Karyn Mitchell was sexually attacked and eventually made to appear the instigator by the media. Now living a new life in Birmingham, the last thing she wants is to reopen the wounds. She has yet to let a man become intimately involved with her. Night after night, she listens to Dr. Desire, a radio talk show host who gives relationship advice for his listeners. Getting up the nerve one night to call in, Karyn is shocked at her own request: she wants to have sex with him.

Christopher Faulkner is stunned by “Katy’s” request, but that only intrigues him to meet the lady in pain. Something deep inside him wants to help her. He knows he can’t have sex with her, but he certainly can do everything except that. Then Chris learns who Katy really is (Karyn) and asks her out on a simple date. However, it’s soon apparent to Chris that the feelings between them run deeper than just a burgeoning friendship. Karyn wants Chris to take their relationship to the next level, but he fears how it would affect his job…and Karyn. Meanwhile, someone is lurking in the background ready to make their lives miserable.

Kira Sinclair has penned an emotion-packed read with WHISPERS IN THE DARK. Karyn is emotionally scarred by what happened to her five years ago, and allowing a man near has her scared. But listening to and then meeting, Chris she finds herself drawn to him as if he is her soulmate. She craves his touch…and more. But their relationship is tenuous at best, since he surely cannot be the man he pretends to be on the radio...the suave and smart Dr. Desire.

Chris can barely control his emotions. Just listening to Karyn pour out her anguish hits him in the gut. He wants to protect her from whatever or whoever dares to hurt her. Alas, her biggest obstacle may be Chris. He deeply desires her, yet he knows he cannot have her, because to take what she offers means he’s compromising himself as a radio talk show host. Meanwhile, his deadbeat father has walked back into his life, exposing old wounds and making things miserable for Chris. Can he deal with both and still retain his sanity?

WHISPERS IN THE DARK is unique in having a character deal with sexual assault and the resulting backlash. Right away, readers will care for Karyn and Chris, wanting them to get together. The chemistry is there from their first date, pulling readers into the story. Knowing that danger lurks in the background only intensifies the passion readers will feel in hoping that this couple have their happily-ever-after.

In her debut book, Kira Sinclair shines and adds herself to the list of authors to bear watching. Don’t wait another minute; grab a copy of WHISPERS IN THE DARK before it disappears off the shelves.
