Spotlight Review: TEACHING MOLLY

Oh Yum! Series
Ellora’s Cave -
ISBN: 978-1-4991-603-9
May 2008
Erotic Contemporary Romance - Short Story
Rated: E-rotic

Limerock, Texas - Present Day

Molly Gerard is in her mid-forties, divorced, and wondering if she will ever get to experience any of the things she has read about in the erotic novels that she has been reading. Molly’s pride took a beating when her husband left her for a younger woman, and she fears that she will be alone for the rest of her life. When the decade younger Nick Trajan approaches her at a party, Molly can’t believe that he is truly interested in her. After spending an erotic and thoroughly satisfying night with him, Molly is willing to put her insecurities aside and have an affair with Nick. But Nick is very interested in the lush Molly and wants to keep her in his life. First, however, he must introduce her to the real Nick, and he worries that the inexperienced Molly will run from the Dominant/submissive lifestyle that is at the core of his being.

Finding out who she is and what she wants is at the heart of TEACHING MOLLY. Molly has never had an exciting sex life, but reading erotica and cruising the internet has opened her eyes to new experiences. Nick believes in the power of women and equality, but is non-negotiable on being in charge in the bedroom. Will they find what they are looking for together? Realistic, likable characters, strong writing, and steamy sex are the highlights of this tale. TEACHING MOLLY is a terrific story readers won’t want to miss.

Contemporary Romance

Phoenix, Arizona – Present Day

Clint McCade has been in South America for months as a highly paid cameraman, and when he returns to his apartment in Los Angeles, he knows something is his apartment, in his LIFE. He has finally realized his friend Sandy Kirk is not just a friend from their traumatic teen years, but his true love. The last time he remembers being happy was when he spent two weeks with her. She may only see him as a friend, but McCade has finally, finally realized that it's love he feels for Sandy, not friendship. Answer? Get on his motorcycle, ride to Phoenix, and get on with the rest of his life.

Clint McCade always arrives in Phoenix on his motorcycle at odd times, and then leaves just as quickly. It starts with short rides at night, then longer ones, then the wanderlust takes him over and he's gone again. Cassandra (Sandy) Kirk has loved McCade for years, but is determined to get on with her life. After years of looking, she has found the one man who just might be compelling and exciting enough to consider marrying. James Austin Vandenberg the Fourth is the right hand man for Simon Harcourt, who is running for governor. Sandy's company is going to make his campaign commercials, and Jim is definitely the one for her, but he just doesn't seem to be interested. What Sandy doesn't realize is that every time she gets around Jim, she freezes up and can't make a connection with the only man to interest her in years. Now with McCade in Phoenix and staying in her living room, they fall into their old relationship, only this time each of them realizes love is part of the equation now, but neither one is sure that it's on both sides.

McCade decides the least he can do is teach Sandy how to seduce Jim, starting with the way she holds her body when talking to him, or her body language. But the funny thing is, no matter how much he teaches her, her body language is better towards him than it is to Jim, giving him a semblance of hope. And they might as well pretend to Jim that he is, maybe, more than a platonic friend; maybe that will also ratchet up his interest, and it does. When Jim finally sends up undeniable interest waves, Sandy realizes that, while he's handsome and nice, almost as great as McCade, he still isn't McCade. Should she take what she can from McCade before he leaves in the middle of the night again, or deny herself what she wants the most? And can McCade help Sandy get Jim's attention and deny himself the thrills and heartfelt feelings of love that he knows he and Sandy will generate if they get together?

Suzanne Brockmann's deft handling of BODY LANGUAGE is noticeable in the entire story. Here, the man for once knows and accepts love, but realizes that perhaps Sandy can find love with someone other than himself. Written from Sandy's and McCade's points of view, we learn how each of them is afraid to acknowledge their love to the other in fear that their long term relationship will be broken, and that friendship is important and precious to them both. Entertaining characters with an intense, passionate story to tell is Ms. Brockmann's specialty, and she delivers here in spades.

Tony the Barber is a true friend who can easily sense the feelings of Sandy and McCade. Poor Jim is in the middle of things; first Sandy acts as if she's interested in him, then she's making kissy face with McCade. Does she want to take the relationship further or not? But Sandy and McCade more than fill the pages with their passion, love, and inner connection from years together that gives them a special bond.

BODY LANGUAGE is a reissue of a 1998 Loveswept novel, and the story is as fresh as ever; in fact, the political commercials and insider look is especially pertinent at this time. No matter what the year, BODY LANGUAGE is a great book and an exciting story by the Queen of Love, Suzanne Brockmann.

Introducing....JENNY GILLIAM!!!

1. Tell us about your current release.

It's called LETTING LUCE. It's about a woman who instigates an
anonymous online affair with her best friend who she's secretly lusted after
for years. It will be available Friday, June 20 from Amira Press.

2. What is the hardest part of writing?

Sitting down and getting the job done. After finishing 4 novels in a
little over a year, I've been having a rough time working on my WIP. Call
it burnout. I'm trying to write every day, though. It is difficult at
this jucture. I'm sure it'll ease up soon (hopefully).

3. Can you tell us a little about your road to publication? Rocky or
smooth sailing?

I got a LOT of rejections for LETTING LUCE. Amira was the
last publisher I had planned to send it to when I got the approval. As
for my other novels, after all of the rejections, I decided to go the
e-press way. My first novel, THE WEDDING WAR, was published by The Wild
Rose Press and came out last spring. So far, I LOVE e-publishing.

4. Which friends or authors have influenced you, either for their
writing or their friendship?

I really owe kudos to my RWA writer's chapter. They've inspired me so
much. And my critique partner, Deboroah. She's going to make an awesome
editor some day (she's also a great writer). As for authors, I really
like Rachel Gibson, Susan Elizabeth Phillips and JR Ward.

5. What is coming out for you in the near future?

My next novel from The Wild Rose Press is called THE TRUTH ABOUT ROXY,
and is due out in October/November of 2008. It's about a mousy woman
who takes on a daring persona to change the old fashioned views in her
hometown and the comical effects of said change.

6. And finally....where can readers find you on the internet?

I LOVE to hear from my readers! You can contact me at

Thanks so much for having me!!!!

Thanks Jenny! You can purchase a copy of LETTING LUCE starting today by heading to

A Perfect 10: LETTERS TO A SECRET LOVER by Toni Blake

A Perfect 10
Avon Books
ISBN: 978-0-06-142988-0
June 2008
Contemporary Romance

Moose Falls, Montana – Present Day

Lindsey Brooks's fiancé dumps her after her seduction attempt in high heel stilettos and an apron goes awry. She decides to go lick her wounds in a small town her Aunt Millie has lived in for over thirty years. Lindsey feels guilty because she lost touch with Millie, who, last summer before she died, wanted to will Lindsey her old canoe livery where people rent canoes to take out on the lake. But Lindsey was busy being engaged and writing an on-line blog and syndicated advice column called Love Letters, so she forgot to respond. Now she has come to Moose Falls to see if she can buy the livery back and figure out what went wrong with her love life. If she is such a failure in love, how can she continue to hand out advice?

The owner of the livery, Rob Coulter, is a hermit and a scary guy, or so some of the townspeople try to warn Lindsey. Lindsey is not one to give up, and since she drove all this way to the middle of nowhere, she is not leaving until she talks to Mister Mysterious. When Lindsey finally meets Rob, things don't go that well at all because Rob is rude and a bit mean. Even though she wouldn't mind getting back on the old sex horse with moody lumberjack man, she will try to figure out a way to get on his good side.

Rob just wants to be left alone. Not even this city girl who seems a bit flaky, but very cute, will convince him otherwise. But, Lindsey, or Abby as he now calls her because of her advice column, is Millie's niece, and Millie helped him through so much. So, he decides to allow Lindsey to walk in Millie's shoes, so to speak, and let Lindsey see old pictures and take her hiking. As things progress between the two, Rob begins to enjoy having Lindsey around more and more. Even his dog King brightens up whenever she stops by.

Rob makes the mistake of getting a look at Lindsey's leopard print bra, and he has no choice but to kiss her. Who would have thought he would have a leopard underwear fetish? Maybe it is just the woman wearing the sexy ensemble that makes him go crazy? Lindsey is now definitely back on the sex horse, as she calls it, with Rob, and things are amazing between the two, but Rob is so secretive about his past. Plus, there is this little thing that irks Lindsey. Rob has a tattoo over his heart with the name "Gina." Who is Gina, and why won't he tell Lindsey about her?

Will Rob ever explain the LETTERS TO A SECRET LOVER he has written? That is the key question that Lindsey raises among others in this funny, emotional, and very sexy romance by Toni Blake. Lindsey is a city girl who wants to discover her connection to her deceased aunt who comes to mean so much to her. Rob is an added bonus, and it's really cute to see him succumb to the charms of his Abby. These two have one scorching love affair, and the love scenes are some of the best I have read this year. The mystery that surrounds Rob is a well-written one that will keep readers guessing. And when you find out what Rob has gone through, you'll want to wrap him in your arms, much as Lindsey has done.

The town of Moose Falls seems like its own character and is very vital to the story. The townspeople are a quirky bunch but a joy to read about, such as Carla, the bartender of The Lazy Elk Bar and Grill who becomes Lindsey's new friend; Eleanor, who runs The Grizzly Inn, and the ladies of the Moose Falls book club. Some readers may even have some sympathy for William, who is such a fan of Lindsey's blog that he becomes obsessed with her. He is not who he seems and becomes important to Lindsey and Rob's future.

LETTERS TO A SECRET LOVER was a pleasant surprise that made me laugh out loud, gasp in surprise, and coo over the major loving between Rob and Lindsey, who can't keep their hands off of each other. Toni Blake has written a near perfect novel and rightly deserves RRT's Perfect 10 award.

Guest Blogger: CINDI MYERS

Thank you for inviting me to participate in the Romance Reviews Today blog. I’m very happy to be here. My newest release, A Soldier Comes Home should be showing up in stores any day now. This is the story of Captain Ray Hughes, whose wife leaves him while he’s fighting in Iraq. He comes home to an empty house and a three-year old son he scarcely knows and has to pick up the pieces of his life as a single dad. He meets Chrissie Evans, a young widow whose husband died early in the war, and the two fall in love. But Ray isn’t sure he can trust a woman again, and Chrissie is afraid to marry another soldier.

This is my first book for Superromance. I started out writing western historicals for Berkley and Kensington. On the contemporary side, I’ve written for Temptation, Blaze, Flipside, Next, Signature and American. I love that I’ve been able to write so many different kinds of stories. I think it keeps me from burning out or getting stale.

I’m like this as a reader, too. I enjoy reading all kinds of books. I read romance, of course, both historical and contemporary. But I also enjoy mysteries, historical novels, nonfiction, humor and some fantasy.

Writing different types of books allows me to explore different types of stories. I write small-town-set comedy for American. Blaze allows me to delve into sexy fantasies. A Soldier Comes Home was a very emotional story. Ray and Chrissie have been hurt and I wanted to help them find their happy ending. I also wanted to show, in some small way, the challenges our soldiers and their families face both overseas and at home.

I’m curious — do you read lots of different kinds of books? Or is there one type of book that really speaks to you and has you coming back to similar stories over and over? Do you hate it when your favorite authors skip around, or enjoy the variety? I’m all ears!

About Cindi Myers

Cindi Myers became one of the most popular people in eighth grade when she and her best friend wrote a torrid historical romance and circulated it among their peers. Fame was short-lived, however; the English teacher confiscated the manuscript and advised her to concentrate on learning to properly diagram a sentence. From this humbling beginning, she has gone on to write over two dozen novels. Her books have been Waldenbooks bestsellers and have been praised for their emotion, humor and sensuality. Over a half million copies of her books have been sold in more than a dozen countries. She was the 2005 Rocky Mountain Fiction Writers Writer of the Year. A Soldier Comes Home is her first book for Superromance. You can learn more about Cindi on her website:

Summer Lovin' and Reading and The Power of Love

As we hit the summer reading season, I'm curious what your summer reading plans are. What books are on your "can't wait to buy and read" list?

Post away, and for every one who posts (one entry per person) you will be entered in a chance to win.... THE POWER OF LOVE by Lori Foster and various other romance authors. Here is the back cover blurb for THE POWER OF LOVE:

In this engaging anthology of never-before-published stories, twelve authors are united by their unique visions of the female experience... A young woman is torn between the security of her fiancé and the excitement of an old flame...a desperate wife is forced into the workplace for the first time in her ambitious professional woman finally finds the courage to take control of her career—and her emotionally fragile divorcee finds resolve in the ethereal visitations of an archangel...

These are just some of the women who discover and rediscover their own wonderfully fallible but ultimately strong selves in the shadow of love— romantic love, platonic love, new love, and lost love. Readers will be touched, inspired, charmed, and entertained by these original stories of disparate longings, unsettled lives, and the power of love.

Post away and I'll draw a winner on Monday night!

A Perfect 10: YOUR SCANDALOUS WAYS by Loretta Chase

A Perfect 10
ISBN: 978-0-06-123124-7
June 2008
Historical Romance
Venice, September 1820

James Cordier performs one last service before retiring to England to enjoy the considerable fortune gained over a decade and a half as a spy. He successfully seduces the beautiful but cold-hearted Marta Fazi in Rome and steals back a set of fabled emeralds to be returned to their rightful, royal owners -- all for king and country, of course. James is a younger son of an earl by his second wife, an Italian lady of noble family. He was recruited in his teens after being sent to the army for his wild ways. But his return to England is delayed when he's ordered to once again use his renowned good looks and charm -- he's tall, well built, with blue eyes set off by dark curls -- to retrieve certain letters from an English lady in Venice.

Francesca Bonnard entered marriage very much in love and full of youthful ideals...until she was betrayed by the men in her life. It took little time before John Bonnard ran through her fortune and turned to other women. When her father was revealed as a swindler, Bonnard smeared Francesca's name and divorced her. Disgraced and heartbroken, Francesca left England and is now the most celebrated courtesan in Europe...a very exclusive, very high-priced courtesan. It pleases Francesca greatly that her living so well infuriates her ex-husband.

James rents a palazzo across the canal from Francesca's, then uses his talents for disguise to observe her closely, now as a servant at the opera, again as a bearded Spanish gigolo. One evening, as Francesca travels home in her gondola after parting from her good friend Giulietta, she's accosted and attacked by two men in a boat. Luckily, James had been watching that boat and is a strong swimmer; he saves Francesca's life. It seems John Bonnard -- an ambitious man who recently bought a title and has his eye on the prime minister's office -- hired Marta Fazi to steal back treasonous letters that Francesca took from his desk. And he doesn't care how she does it.

YOUR SCANDALOUS WAYS can be exciting and suspenseful, humorous and sensuous in turn. The story is unusual, the plot cleverly contrived, but best of all, the characters are delicious. Francesca is all that is admirable, no matter her profession. She didn't descend into the gutter as Bonnard hoped she would. Instead, she uses her beauty and sharp wits to survive in the only way open to her. She's a good friend to Giulietta -- who is also a courtesan, if less exclusive -- and kind to a young, wholly enraptured crown prince of an obscure kingdom. She enjoys the freedom of being mistress of her own fate. How her meeting with James Cordier will affect that life remains to be seen.

James lost his trust in man's goodness at twenty-one during the year of torture he spent in a French prison. Ten years later, he looks forward to retirement at home. But before he can do that, he's in danger of becoming more and more entangled with Francesca Bonnard, whose name is anathema in England.

Terrific scene setting that brings Venice to life and smart dialogue that makes you a participant, together with captivating characters, stimulating wit and love scenes, make YOUR SCANDALOUS WAYS worthy of a rare Perfect 10. Book after book, Loretta Chase truly earns the high regard of her fans.

Q&A with Susanna Carr!!!

Give a warm welcome to Susanna Carr! I've heard wonderful things about Red-Hot and Royal and it's on the top of my to-be-bought list. Sit back and enjoy a little get-to-know-Susanna!

1. Tell us a little about your latest release.

Kylee, Lauren and Shayla are modern-day ordinary women who would never meet the requirements for fabled princesses. Damsels in distress? Definitely not. Fairest in the land? They wish. Pure as snow? Not even close. Now, these three women are about to get to know the wild side of royalty—and inspire three princes to cast the crown aside and bare it all. Their encounters are royally erotic—and the happily ever after they reach is not exactly the fairytale ending you’d expect. It’s much, much hotter. One thing’s for sure: These princes never had it so good….

2. What was your favorite scene?

One of my favorite scenes is available on my website. You can read it here

3. How was your road to publication - a smooth ride or a rocky trip?

I was always publishing short stories and novellas, but it took me about seven years before my first novel sold.

4. How do you stay motivated?

I have to find a story idea that really excites me.

5. Is there another genre you'd like to write in?

I also write women’s erotica under the pen name Jenesi Ash.

6. Which authors or friends have influenced you over the years, whether for their writing or for their friendship?

The authors and aspiring writers at my local romance writing group have really influenced me.

7. What's coming up in the future for you?

My next book will be out next year. It’s called THE YEAR OF LIVING SHAMELESSLY. My next Jenesi Ash book is out in September and it’s called SWAP.

8. can your readers find you?

A Perfect 10: NOT ANOTHER BAD DATE by Rachel Gibson

A Perfect 10
Avon Books
ISBN-13: 978-0-06-117804-7
June 2008
Contemporary Romance
Cedar Creek, Texas – Present Day

Devon Hamilton-Zemaitis -Three Years Ago

Can you believed I died in a car accident? Me, Devon Hamilton-Zemaitis, wife of Zachary Zemaitis, a freaking pro quarterback for Denver. Well, at least he had the sense to bury me in my Chanel bouclé tweed and Mikimoto pearls, even though the white bouclé was so last season. But just as I'm waiting in line to get into heaven -- why Zach hadn't buried me in my two-toned pumps, I have no idea -- my sixth grade teacher seems to be in charge. Mrs. Highbarger says I will have to work somewhere in between until I earn my way into heaven by making things right with a girl with curly hair from my past. Oh sure, I'll earn my way to heaven by making things right, but until then I have to spend my interim time in... WAL-MART?

Adele Harris - Present Day

Well, this is just dandy, another date with a guy who immediately turns into a jerk in my presence. Why, it's been two, no three years since I've dated a man who didn't turn into a jerk, much less had sex with a man. Why is my life cursed? Well, now's a perfect time to daydream about my first lover, Zach Zemaitis. I never did find out why he was attracted to me, but in college, I fell in love with him. I always wanted to wait until I met someone I loved before giving my virginity, but afterward he broke my heart by dumping me and going back to his old girlfriend, Devon. Ah well, as my dream comes to an end, my sister Sherilyn calls. Her dentist husband has left her for his assistant, Stormy Winter, and Sherilyn is five months pregnant. Sheri wants to return home to Cedar Creek with her thirteen-year-old daughter Kendra and needs me to help, just until the baby comes. Well, Sheri's never asked me for anything, and all my friends are married or getting married, and none of them have a cursed dating life, so what can it hurt?

Zach Zemaitis - Present Day

Well, even though I'm no longer a pro quarterback, coaching the Cedar Creek Cougars football team to a winning season is still a thrill. Everyone knows about football in small town Texas, and my team is really good. Raising a teenage daughter like Tiffany isn't easy, but after one too many concussions and Devon's death, I decided to leave Denver and move into the house in Cedar Creek where Devon and Tiffany had lived. I grew up in Cedar Creek, too, and despite having no sex in forever, I am content with my life, until my past comes to the front door.

When Adele goes to pick up her niece at her friend's house, whom does she see but Zach Zemaitis, her first lover. She knows the sparks are still there but does her level best to ignore them, shove them away, and bury them deep in her heart; she doesn't need pain like she once went through again. She can't even have one decent date! Zach is content with his life and, frankly, hadn't thought about Adele in years. But that curly hair still gets to him as it did all those years ago, and he remembers the way they made each other feel so perfect, but actually, he's not interested in marriage or a family or anything permanent. Casual sex is another thing, though. But Adele is busy with her sister because she has to be hospitalized the last months of her pregnancy, and losing the baby is a very real possibility. Adele barely knows her niece Kendra, and worries about whether all teenagers are as impossible to live with. And hanging over everyone's head is Devon and her life size picture in Zach's living room. From beyond the grave, her reach is all-encompassing, even more than I can reveal. Just a question, if Wal-Mart is one step to heaven, where could the next stop be?

Rachel Gibson has the touch of an artist as she creates characters to love. The story is written from Adele's and Zach's points of view, but the teenagers, Kendra and Tiffany, also are central. The town of Cedar Creek is brought to life, Adele's cursed dating life follows her to Texas, and Zach's relationship with Devon is exquisitely written. Before NOT ANOTHER BAD DATE is over, we know each person as a personal friend.

Adele's sister Sherilyn is the center of the story, trying to keep her baby safe, keep Kendra calm, and saving her own sanity. The two teenagers, Kendra and Tiffany, are typical girls, yet because of their family situations, wise beyond their years. Kendra is upset at her father, embarrassed by her mother being pregnant, and scared of moving away from her school and friends. Tiffany still misses her mother, and yet longs for a mother's counsel on the intimate details of life. Each character is carefully polished and a delight to meet. I can safely say each and every one is unique and extraordinary in his or her own way.

NOT ANOTHER BAD DATE is an awesome read and a fun and yet poignant reading adventure. There is humor, pain, birth, death, fidelity, infidelity, and even some hot sex mixed in. Rarely have I read a book that touched my heartstrings while making me laugh, and NOT ANOTHER BAD DATE definitely deserves RRT's Perfect 10 award. Buy it, and you'll love this inspiring and sublimely perfect story.

June Reviews Posted

Romance Reviews Today,

You will note that several older pages are in transition – but rather than take the site down for maintenance I am leaving all the pages live and updating them on the web. This way, all the reviews remain available, and the navigation buttons still work, even if they are not yet resized. Additionally I am working on an index of reviews by AUTHOR to help you locate reviews more quickly. However, you can always utilize the search engine on the Reviews page and the Main Index. The site is re-indexed every weekend to add the latest reviews to the search engine database.

Visit our new release page and start your shopping list today! You will note that all books reviewed are now linked on our New Releases page as well as in the current and back issues and on the individual genre pages. All erotic books reviewed can be found on the New Releases page as well – with direct links to the review on our sister site RRTErotic.

Visit the RRTBlog to see what Patti is up to – and what books she is giving away. If you are not on the RRTChatters loop, you are missing some great conversations – and prizes.

Join Patti every Friday night in the RRT chat room to chat about this, that and the other.
