Guest Blogger: Christmas vacations – Melissa McClone

We've only gone on one Christmas vacation back when my oldest was nine months old. We visited my husband's family in Long Island, New York. It was fun to see how his side of the family celebrated the holidays, from their Christmas tree decorations to their traditions. A little different from my family's!

My favorite memory is taking our daughter to Manhattan. The weather was cold and snow was on the ground. She wore a cute pink snowsuit, a hand-me-down from a romance writer friend. Her two uncles walked in front of the umbrella stroller to clear a path. We took her to Rockefeller Center (the ice skating ring was so much smaller than I expected), the zoo at Central Park and FAO Schwartz. I enjoyed finally seeing the window displays at stores, something I heard about for years.

Since then we've stay home for Christmas. Just easier with so many dogs and cats! They are part of the family, too, and like to open the presents in their stockings along with us. If we vacation during the holidays, we're away the week between Christmas and New Years and it's to Bend, Oregon where we can visit friends and ski at Mt. Bachelor.

What about you? Do you have a favorite Christmas vacation? Leave a comment for a chance to win Starbucks gift card and fun reader goodies!

Home For Christmas

Ginger, nutmeg and cinnamon.

Rachel Murphy loves the scent of gingerbread baking almost as much as she enjoys creating custom edible houses at Christmastime. But she needs a bigger kitchen if she wants to make the most of her impromptu holiday business.

Enter Nate Vaughn, handsome venture capitalist turned Montana dude ranch owner and her brother’s boss. Nate’s commercial kitchen is perfect for the baker. And he thinks she might be perfect for him…as a business partner.

After being burned by a celebrity baker, Rachel’s wary of Nate’s interest in her gingerbread houses, not to mention his mistletoe kisses. She should leave the Bar V5 ranch and return to Arizona. Or can Nate convince her she’s already home?

Before kids, Hubby and I always travelled to our parents' homes for Christmas. I really prefer to stay home, and was ever grateful that we could do that without hurting anyone's feelings once the kids came along!

We have often traveled to my mother's or sister's house on Christmas but they are day trips.

I also like to be home for a white Christmas. There's nothing being home with family sharing the smell and beauty of a freshly cut pine tree, a roaring fire and a cup of hot chocolate as Christmas carols play in the background.

I have spent many Christmases vacationing in Florida, the weather is always warmer than home but, colored lights on palm trees aren't quite the same as decorated evergreens and snow covered ground.
