I enjoyed reading "The Proposal," but the novel's plausibility, plot and consistency of character development were not as good as they normally are in a Balogh novel. There were also so many briefly mentioned secondary characters that I got confused as to who was who.
The book starts with an unusual and attention-grabbing situation -- a group of badly wounded Napoleonic wars veterans gather every year at the home of a nobleman who lost his son in the wars and share their recovery experiences, helping each other slowly heal.
