A Perfect 10:

VAMPIRE MINE - Kerrelyn Sparks
Love at Stake - Book 10
Avon
ISBN: 978-0-0619-5804-5
April 2011
Paranormal Romance

Mount Rushmore - South Dakota

Connor Buchanan has lived his five centuries in a miserable existence. He has not known love or forgiveness in half a millennium. Connor has never been good at obeying orders, so when he goes to Mount Rushmore to investigate a Malcontent murder and hears voices, he investigates without back up. There he sees a man and a woman discussing the deaths. When the woman is harmed, he fears them both the enemy, but he cannot bare leaving her to die.

Marielle lived a life of rebellion in heaven. After her third time to disobey, she’s cast from heaven. Luckily the handsome Connor is there to save and protect her. Marielle was a Deliverer, or Death Angel in heaven. All she ever wanted was to heal. Now she has the chance to heal the broken warrior and earn her way back to heaven.

Connor thinks all his friends have become romantic fools. He knows that he will never succumb to love again and saves himself the heartache. However, when Marielle arrives, the cold walls around his heart begin to crumble. Now mortal, Marielle wishes to return to the former life she lived as an angel. She does not understand life as a human. But when she begins to fall for Connor in a way angels never experience, she discovers she may not want to leave as badly as she thought.

A sexy thrill ride, VAMPIRE MINE is the tenth installment in the Love at Stake series. Marielle and Connor's story expands over a period of a week. By the end of the week, the couple is in love. Moving fast is the name of the game for many romance authors, so this is not a shock to fans of the genre. Marielle begins as an innocent angel, and by the end she is a determined human. Marielle grows as a character throughout the book. Connor has always been one of readers' favorite vampires. It is great to finally read his story. Connor is strong but cold. Only his late wife and daughter, and now Marielle, could bring down his walls.

Kerrelyn Sparks's writing has always been laugh out loud funny. Some of the humor is gone from this book, however. Sparks's "spark" is missing until the middle of the novel. From there it picks up at her normal, great pace. Fans of Lynsay Sands and Katie MacAlister will enjoy the Love at Stake series. Do not miss the eleventh in the series featuring the "sexiest vampire alive," Gregori! Coming September 27, 2011!

A Perfect 10:

THE SWEETEST THING – Jill Shalvis
Lucky Harbor, Book 2
A Perfect 10
Forever
ISBN: 978-0-446-57162-3
April 2011
Contemporary Romance

Lucky Harbor, Washington – Present Day

With her saucy tongue and southern belle attitude, Tara isn’t exactly hiding the fact that she’s not happy to be back in Lucky Harbor. But here it is, six months later, and she’s still around working with her two sisters, Maddie and Chloe, to open a bed and breakfast. Of course, one reason Tara could be unhappy is the fact that her one time lover, Ford, still lives in Lucky Harbor. She tries to ignore him even though it’s hard to do. Their summer affair seventeen years ago was over quicker than the blink of an eye, but one thing neither can forget is what happened as a result of their summer alliance: a baby girl they gave up for adoption.

Ford is amused that she pretends to ignore him. He’s a world class sailor and can have any woman he wants. But he only wants one woman—Tara. He’s still attracted to her, has a feeling of “things aren’t over yet”, and he’s planning to bide his time wooing her back into his bed.

Just as Ford succeeds, Tara’s ex-husband arrives, and he is bent on winning her back, too, though she makes it clear she’s not interested. Tara tries to hide her desire for Ford, but the man is too damn irresistible, and he even makes her do things she doesn’t normally do. No, not that. She’s a five star cook, and Ford’s presence has her suddenly burning the food. Of course, add in her ever persistent ex convinced she’ll take him back and Ford’s cocky attitude and she’s feeling like her head’s spinning. Then the second, and biggest, surprise neither Tara nor Ford expects shows up in town…

Once again Jill Shalvis provides readers with a sexy, funny, hot tale. Tara tries to maintain a stiff upper lip as the folks in Lucky Harbor keep tabs on the dance of romance between Ford and Tara. She doesn’t want to admit she finds him attractive. To do so would mean giving in to his seductive powers. Tara seemingly has to work hard to keep her head above water, what with her and her sisters struggling to get the bed and breakfast open and dodging the two men in her life. Ford, on the other hand, appears laid back and carefree, tending bar when he isn’t off on sailing competitions. But it’s a small town, and Tara and Ford are bound to run into each other. When her ex, Logan, announces that he wants her back, the town gets in on the action by doing some crazy stuff, like voting on a Facebook fan poll of who should win Tara’s hand. Tara is mystified by it all, since she wants neither of them. She’s too busy for a relationship with any man, let alone two. But deep down, she’s afraid to admit the real reason she doesn’t want to get involved with Ford is the past. Being around him brings up the memories of that one, fateful summer…

Lucky Harbor is full of many people who are an integral part of THE SWEETEST THING. There are Tara’s sisters, Maddie (her story is in SIMPLY IRRESISTIBLE, out now) and Chloe (hers is coming later this year in HEAD OVER HEELS). While none of the sisters were close at the beginning of the Lucky Harbor series, by now they’re learning to connect and to be supportive of each other. Also part of the sisters’ lives is Jax; he’s Maddie’s almost fiancé and Ford’s friend. Sawyer is the local lawman; Chloe is a thorn in his side, and he’s also best friends with Jax and Ford. Then there is Lucille. She a crotchety old lady, but deep down she’s as nosey as they come and the rumored Facebook page owner. She might be hard of hearing, but she knows everything that goes on with Tara and Ford (and Logan).

Which man will Tara decide owns her heart? Reading THE SWEETEST THING will make it clear who should win Tara, while the food mentioned will certainly leave you hungry. (As a side note, if you have an e-reader and like to cook, then check out the recipe book available for purchase as a companion for THE SWEETEST THING.) The ending is as sweet as it’s funny. Tara and Ford have some seriously hot chemistry going on and they make the most of it in THE SWEETEST THING. Trust me; you’ll need an ice-cold drink nearby. Will they manage to deal with the past (and the result) and find their way to a future together? Find out for yourself by picking up a copy of this delightful tale that deserves a Perfect 10 from Romance Reviews Today.

Q & A with Roisin Meaney...with a giveaway!

1. Tell us about your newest release.

Semi-Sweet was really fun for me to write, as it deals with a woman who opens up a cupcake shop - for an enthusiastic amateur baker like myself, it was totally pandering to my love of poring over cookbooks and trying out recipes! Hannah has just been dumped before she opens the shop, so as she's baking and selling all those yummy cupcakes she's also struggling to come to terms with her boyfriend Patrick's deception. Happily, she's not left to mourn for too long, and with the help of some good friends - and an interesting stranger - she finds a way to laugh again. Semi-Sweet isn't all just sweetness and light though - there are some darker storylines happening too, and more struggles than Hannah's.

2. Can you tell us a little about your favorite scene in the story?

I think it's probably when Patrick revisits Hannah towards the end, and she gives him exactly what he deserves! (Sorry, but I can't say too much more without giving the game away.)

3. When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?

Way back when I was eighteen years old, and I won a car in a Kellogg's Corn Flakes competition by finishing a sentence in ten words or less! I wrote 'I would like to win a Ford Fiesta because ... my father won't let me drive his!'

4. Where do you get your information or ideas for your stories?

They can come from anywhere - things I see or hear, things I read about or experience. I find travelling is good for inspiration, because I'm seeing and experiencing so many new things. Sometimes I'll make a note of something that interests me, but other times an idea will just pop into my head and I'm not sure where it's come from. Of course I grab it before it disappears!

5. What would you say is your interesting writing quirk?

In all but one of my novels to date, I've included a cat. I come from a family of cat lovers, and we always had a cat in the house when I was growing up. Now I have two cats myself, and most of my siblings have some too, and I thought it might be fun to feature a cat every time I wrote a book. I was dismayed when I realized that I'd left a cat out of one book, but by then it was too late to do anything about it. There is a dog in it though, a real cutie called Dolly.

6. What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your books?

I think it was that I could do it! I had no idea when I began writing my first novel in 2001 whether I'd get to the end of it or not. I'm still amazed when I get to the last page of whatever I'm writing - amazed and very, very relieved!

7. What authors or friends influenced you in helping you become a writer?

I'm a voracious reader, and of all the authors I love I think Ann Tyler stands out as a particular favourite. I discovered her in Zimbabwe, of all places, in 1984, when I was working as an English teacher. I found one of her books, Dinner at the Homesick Restaurant, in a friend's house and fell instantly in love with her quirky characters and wonderful storytelling style. I was compared to Ann Tyler in a review once and I just about fainted with gratitude.

8. What does your family think about your career as a published author?

They love it. My parents are my staunchest supporters, and my siblings are great too. Of course they love coming to the launches and basking in the reflected glory!

9. Besides writing, what other interests do you have?

Baking, walking, doing cryptic crosswords, travelling and going to dinner parties. I'd like to say drinking nice red wine too, but I'm afraid that might give the wrong impression!

10. Can you tell us about what’s coming up next for you writing wise?

I've recently started a new book, it's set on an island off the Irish coast and it features a girl who's planning her wedding and raising money by letting out her house for seven weeks of the summer. It's going really well and I'm very happy with the characters, who are all behaving themselves - so far!

11. How can readers connect with you online?

Through my website, http://www.roisinmeaney.com./ I'm always delighted to hear from readers, especially if they're saying good things about my books!

***************

Thanks for joining us!

One lucky winner will win a copy of Semi-Sweet by posting. So, ask or comment away and I'll announce a winner in a couple of days.
Good luck!

Q&A with Laura Spinella....and a giveaway!

1. Tell us about your newest release.

BEAUTIFUL DISASTER is a Southern set novel that poses this question: What would you risk for a love that is greater than honor or friendship or the passing of time? The book is women’s fiction with a heavy thread of romance. BEAUTIFUL DISASTER weaves the past and present, following Mia and Flynn’s passionate and complex story, a relationship that tests the boundaries between love and obsession—Well, at least that’s how Uber-author Diane Chamberlain described it.

2. Can you tell us a little about your favorite scene in the story?

Oh, gosh, a quiz and we’re only on question two! I have a couple, but like any honest love story it’s the moment of truth between characters that gets me every time. The scene occurs during a hospital visit, but I don’t want to give away too much by giving a direct answer. It’s a short exchange of dialogue that captures a pivotal moment between Mia and Flynn. I think it represents the pinnacle of tension and trust. After that, hopefully, the reader is on a bullet train bound for the ending.

3. When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?

When I flunked fifth grade math. That sounds like a smart-mouth answer, but it’s kind of the truth. Not so many years after the fifth grade, I realized I couldn’t connect with things like math because my mind was too busy processing stories. In fact, my most prominent childhood memory is the endless time spent creating characters and situations and outcomes. Apparently, my brain is wired to follow a specific compass, I guess a writer’s compass, and that’s the direction I went.

4. Where do you get your information or ideas for your stories?

Great question. Characters always come first. For instance, with Flynn, the protagonist in BEAUTIFUL DISASTER, I sat down in my sunroom on a rainy Saturday to write, and he sat down next to me. It’s surreal when that happens, and it doesn’t happen with every character. Most of them take time to get to know. Flynn was the exception to the rule, dropping in on me just as he does in the book. If we’re talking about facts, I don’t mind doing my research. For this book I interviewed a Special Ops marine, ICU nurse, and a holistic designer—my son’s Taekwondo instructor even choreographed a fight scene for me. I find that most people are willing to share their area of expertise. You just have to be a little bold, but polite, and ask. Overall ideas for a novel begin with a what if premise that grows as the story develops. What if you were a fugitive on the run, for a crime you didn’t commit, and you happened to meet the love of your life? What if a dozen years later you find out she’s married to somebody else? That’s a problem. Where do those ideas come from? I haven’t a clue.

5. What would you say is your interesting writing quirk?

I don’t know that I have a quirk. I probably have a lot of bad habits that you’d find on page one of any good writing manual. I’m ridiculously regimented about my writing, which involves hot tea, warming up with the last chapter before writing anything new, and biting my thumbnail when contemplating intense plot twists. Also, if I’m not writing away by 7:30 a.m. the day is basically shot. Uh, I guess I do have a few quirks.

6. What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your books?

There are no bad ideas. There are ideas that need work, ideas that need to ferment in drawer, ideas that spark a character for a book you may not write for another two years. Before agents and editors enter the scene, you’re a one-woman show: CEO, middle management, publicist, IT department, copy editor, janitorial staff, etc… and you have to value every idea. I’ve learned something huge from each book I’ve written, perhaps more from the ones that didn’t make it to a store shelf. And here’s the brilliant thing about that: there’s no rule that says you can’t apply what you’ve learned to the books that didn’t make it. That alone can spark new life into an old idea.

7. What authors or friends influenced you in helping you become a writer?

Different authors have influenced me along the way; a lot of it is age relevant. For the last decade or so, I’ve been a big Jodi Picoult fan. In my opinion, she’s a writer’s writer. But I also read around, there’s something to gain from every book. I wasn’t terribly savvy about connecting with other authors before BEAUTIFUL DISASTER. After a book is published, you quickly learn about getting on board with social media. It’s critical for a debut author. It’s time consuming, but it’s free! I’ve wised up in that regard, though I think I’m still, by nature, a solitary writer. My non-author friends were invaluable during the process and I’m lucky to still have them around! They’re all on the acknowledgement page, a small token of my appreciation for the hours of whining, brainstorming, dead ends, reading, and rereading they endured.

8. What does your family think about your career as a published author?

The tag line around here is BEAUTIFUL DISASTER is like the fourth child in our home—and the one that often gets the most attention. Okay, I just called my 22-year old daughter in to answer this question: “Not everyone can say their mom is a published author. It’s definitely a conversation starter. After all the time and work she’s invested we’re very glad to see the book in stores. It’s kind of cool.” --Megan Spinella

9. Besides writing, what other interests do you have?

See the kids who came before BEAUTIFUL DISASTER! I still have my job freelancing for an area newspaper, so that takes a chunk of my time. Of course I read, we travel when we can, I love historic places—which is interesting because I couldn’t imagine writing a historical novel. I’m a bit of a sports fanatic (I think because it’s so removed from the solitary writer thing) but only for my teams. You can always find me dressed in my red and black, barking like a nut, on Georgia football Saturdays, GO DAWGS! I’m also a proud, card carrying member of Red Sox Nation and a diehard Pats fan.

10. Can you tell us about what’s coming up next for you writing wise?

THE IT FACTOR—Aidan Royce appears to have it all, including rock star fame. But he’s never forgotten Isabel Lang, the girl from home, the one who left him on their wedding night in Las Vegas. It mirrors the passion and tempo of BEAUTIFUL DISASTER, but the characters and story couldn’t be more different. As soon as I finish this interview, I’m back to work on it and hope to complete the draft in the next few weeks.

11. How can readers connect with you online?

You can always visit my website, http://www.lauraspinella.net/ . There’s my blog, Ticket to Write, upcoming events, an excerpt from BEAUTIFUL DISASTER, contact info, all the usual author website suspects. I’m also on Facebook where I try to keep a pithy dialogue of posts going. A Perfect 10:

NIGHT MAGIC - Jennifer Lyon
Wing Slayers, Book 3
A Perfect 10
Ballantine Books
ISBN: 978-0-34552-006-7
April 2011
Paranormal Romance

Glassbreakers, California - Present Day

Ailish Donovan lost her sight eight years ago through the backlash of witch karma. When she used her powerful voice power to save her friend, Haley, from her demon witch mother's hands, glass shattered hitting her mother in the eyes. In return, Ailish paid the price, times three. Ailish's mother tricked her into handfasting with the demon to gain dark power. On the run ever since, Ailish has been shunned by everyone she cares for, or could care about, because of her handfasting. Now, a mere two weeks from the completion of the bond, Ailish must die or become a demon witch. She is determined not to give in, but to die...and take her mother with her.

Phoenix is a Wing Slayer Hunter. Suffering from intense guilt over his mother's death, Phoenix gets close to no woman, but is the one time hero for helpless women who need him. For days he has heard a song in his head. Following the voice, Phoenix meets Ailish, his soul mirror. Phoenix wants to be tied down to no one, especially a blind witch he must "babysit" and who could cause him to go rogue in a second. Trusting is not in his nature.

Soon, however, Phoenix and Ailish become closer and trust each other more than they ever thought possible. The legend of the phoenix and the siren has finally come to pass. Can Ailish defeat the demon and remove the handfast before she dies? Will Ailish be another woman Phoenix loved and lost? Together Phoenix and Ailish embark on not only a physically dangerous journey, but an emotionally dangerous one as well.

NIGHT MAGIC is an alluring and captivating read. Readers will read for hours not wanting to put the book down even for that much-needed sleep. Ailish resents those who think that she is not capable because she lost her sight. Phoenix feels intense guilt for not saving his mother. He always felt as though he had to babysit her and never got his own life.

Ailish and Phoenix are combustible together. Their passion is tense, making it all the more suspenseful for readers. Jennifer Lyon truly knows how to weave a tale, not just of romance and action, but genuine emotion. NIGHT MAGIC holds more than steamy scenes and bikes flying off cliffs (although there is plenty of each, I assure you). It shares a tale of two people working through their fears to come together. Many authors fail to add a moral or deeper meaning to their stories, focusing solely on the sex and action.

NIGHT MAGIC is unique and electrifying; a Perfect 10 in every way. When is the last time you read about bird tattoos, karma witches, soul mirrors, ancestors, phoenix wings, and blind kick boxers? Those are just tastes of what is to come in the third novel Jennifer Lyon crafted. Reading the first two books, Blood Magic (February 2009) and Soul Magic (October 2009) is not necessary. Night Magic can stand alone. For the full experience, however, I highly recommend reading the first two in the series to start as many characters and small story arcs carry over from previous novels.

Guest Blogger:Tracy Wolff's Many Hats and Busy Times (plus a giveaway!)

So, a couple of weeks ago I got to do something an erotic romance novelist never gets to do … I got to visit a school and talk about my writing. Of course, at the time I was wearing my young adult author cap, but who’s quibbling? It was so much fun—and made me remember how much I miss being in a classroom with kids who aren’t in college …

April and May are crazy months for me this year—largely because I have three different books coming out under three different names—Deserving of Luke by Tracy Wolff, Hidden Embers by Tessa Adams and Tempest Rising by Tracy Deebs. Between promoting three very distinctly different books to three different audiences, I am a little wiped out—not to mention, completely turned around most days. I’ve promised myself that I am never going to do this again, but then I’m reminded by my friends, regularly, that I have nothing to do with release dates and so this could, indeed, happen again. But I hope it doesn’t.

Still, even with as crazy as the last few weeks have been—and the next few weeks promise to be—I had a great time doing my author visits in Los Angeles, when I was there for the Romantic Times convention a couple of weeks ago. I spent years as a junior high and high school teacher while I was working on my MFA and Ph.D, and I had forgotten how incredibly enjoyable it is to talk to students who are still in the first stages of the educational process.

While I had only prepared a talk to give to the junior high students at the school (It was a K-8 school) I ended up visiting almost all the classes. I read a picture book about writing to the first graders, talked about different cultures and countries that I’ve visited with the third and fourth graders as I also read to them, and then had a blast in the sixth through eighth grades talking about the revision process and answering all kinds of really thoughtful questions about my upcoming YA novel, Tempest Rising, and what it’s like to be a writer.

Looking back, the best part of that day really was the way I was able to step out of my normal routine of writing, teaching college, and being a mom to do something that I haven’t done in a very long time with a group of kids that were absolutely delightful. It totally renewed me and got me enthused about writing again—something that usually only happens when I’m at RWA, around a bunch of women as excited about writing as I am.

So, how about you? What have you done lately that excited you—or was just plain fun? Leave a comment and be entered to win a copy of my December Superromance, Unguarded, and Dark Embers, the first book in my Dragon’s Heat series. Have a great Monday!

Susan Wiggs discusses writing to music and The Goodbye Quilt

For me, every book has a soundtrack. Here’s the one I listened to a lot while writing The Goodbye Quilt. http://c.itunes.apple.com/us/imix/the-goodbye-quilt/id430141104  ...and that’s just the beginning!
Music has always been a big part of my life. My mom used to serenade us on the piano every night at bedtime, with everything from Brahm’s lullabye to "Here We Go Loo-Be-Loo." I took cello lessons forever and played in orchestras all through college.

When I write, I try to pick songs that "feel" like the characters and the book I’m working on. The Goodbye Quilt is such a deeply emotional story, but it’s also a road trip book. So there are fun songs ("Holiday Road" anyone?) and quieter ones, too. To celebrate the publication of this book, I’ve set some images to a great song by Alice Peacock. You can check it out here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-iFrBbydBAo
And a reminder: We’re giving away a $500 travel certificate to one lucky reader, to bring your college kid home, or to go wherever you want! Be sure to enter before the April 10 deadline here: http://www.susanwiggs.com/contests.shtml

What do you love to listen to when you’re on the road? I would love to hear your own road trip picks!

Susan Mallery, author of ALREADY HOME, on the Different Facets of Love...

Susan Mallery has entertained millions of readers with her witty and emotional stories of women and the relationships that move them. In her latest novel, ALREADY HOME, Jenna Stevens, still reeling from a recent divorce, is unpleasantly surprised by the arrival of her birth parents, who seem to want her to feel a family bond immediately. She was perfectly happy with the loving, traditional parents who raised her. Can she learn to love a second mother without damaging her relationship with the woman who raised her? Join Susan’s Members Only area at www.susanmallery.com for exclusive sneak peeks, short stories, and more.

Think of all the loves in your life. If you’re lucky, romantic love is a part of that picture. If you’re even luckier, it’s just a part. Throughout my career, I’ve become known for writing romance novels that make women sigh, and that make women laugh. I’ve been gratified to see my books go as high as #5 on the New York Times bestsellers list, and Booklist has put me on three of their annual Top 10 lists.

I love writing about romantic love, but I’m excited that I now have the opportunity to explore different types of love stories in women’s fiction novels such as this month’s ALREADY HOME. Because that’s what ALREADY HOME is, at heart – a love story. But it’s about the love between a woman and her two mothers.

After a painful divorce, my heroine, Jenna returns home to be comforted by her mother. She gets more mothering than she bargained for when her birth mom shows up unexpectedly and insists on being a part of Jenna’s life.

Of course, things don’t go smoothly. That wouldn’t be any fun! What makes writing – and reading – so much fun is that love always comes with conflict. (Let me rephrase that – in real life, love almost always comes with conflict. In compelling fiction, it always does.) As a writer, I torture people for a living. And my readers love it!

I don’t think I’ll ever stop writing romance. I love it too much. The first heated look, heavy with meaning and desire. The first kiss. The first time the heroine realizes that she would give anything for the chance to spend her life with the man who’s been driving her crazy. Even in my women’s fiction, I can’t resist including a few of those delicious moments. Jenna’s love interest is pretty fabulous. And there’s also a fun dynamic happening between Jenna’s newly found brother and the assistant manager at her store.

Tell me about the loves in your life, romantic and otherwise. Who are the people who mean the most to you?

Spotlight Review:

DEADLY LIES – Cynthia Eden
Grand Central Publishing
ISBN: 978-0-446-55925-6
March 2011
Romantic Suspense

Washington D.C. - Present Day

Samantha Kennedy is part of the FBI’s Serial Services Division. It is an elite team of agents who investigate, track, and apprehend serial killers, rapists, and arsonists. She is considered to be one of the top agents; her specialty is computers. On her last assignment, Sam was kidnapped by a serial killer, tortured and severely traumatized. Now her boss, Keith Hyde, has serious doubts about her returning to the field.

Local police have requested their assistance. Another body is recovered that is linked to a series of kidnappings of sons of wealthy men. Hyde calls Sam onto the scene. Is she ready? When he observes her fear, he sends her back to the office.

That evening Sam goes out—and she’s not looking for love, but sex. At a party, Sam sees a man named Max with whom she had a one night stand.

Max Ridgeway once hooked up with a beautiful woman. After a night of hot steamy sex, she left. He wants more, and there she is. Just as things start to get down and dirty, Sam gets called back to work. Max’s night goes more downhill when his stepbrother, Quinlan, asks him to convince his father, Frank, to release his trust fund. No such luck.

Next evening Sam and Max hook up. Sam tries to explain herself, but the passion gets in the way. A frantic call comes demanding ransom for Quinlan, who has been kidnapped. No police. A ransom is demanded, and if not paid, Quinlan will be cut to pieces. Max discovers Sam is an FBI agent, and not sure what to think, he realizes there is much more to Sam than he knew. Max can’t help but wonder how the kidnappers have so much information about everyone?

Sam is a complex person who is vulnerable, and Max is superb as the alpha male. Readers will embrace the strong chemistry that builds into their relationship. Both have trust issues; can they learn to trust each other? Secondary characters are not what they seem to be. Hyde may be tough as nails, but there is a soft side to him. Meanwhile, stepbrother Quinlan is a snake, but readers get a peek into his life. The twist and turns don’t stop until the last page.

DEADLY LIES is a high-speed, action-packed page-turner with a hot mix of sex and an unlikely romance that will delight readers. This is the third book of the Deadly series. Fasten your seat belts—this racy thriller delivers.

Q&A with Terri Wolffe!

Tell us about your newest release.

In Desperate Desires, light-hearted fare is the coin of the realm when Lady Lucinda Davenport kidnaps and seduces the Duke of Carlsborough, Lucien Brandford, only to fall in love with him. Under her spell, the duke becomes a willing and inventive partner of remarkable stamina who delivers the goods again and again.

Kirkus Review says: “Their over-the-top sexploits make for a lusty, light-weight romp!”

Can you tell us a little about your favorite scene in the story?

Hmmm…I loved writing about the character, Maddy. Readers seem to agree that she adds so much hilarity to the storyline. I love the scene where she meets the duke for the very first time and ends up slapping the daylights out of him. Given his rank and status, it was a humbling experience for the duke.

When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?

I think I fell into a category that many writers find themselves in. You know the one: “Oh, writing a book would be a ‘nice’ thing to do.” However, no attentive energy was put toward an effort. That changed for me in 201 when I realized not only did I want to do it, but that I was holding myself back from doing it out of fear.

Where do you get your information or ideas for your stories?

Google can be a person’s best friend! I did a lot of research on the 18th Century lifestyle because I wanted the book to “fee” authentic. I’ve noticed that some books written about those times don’t seem real to me. I’ve got a number of character’s stories piping through my head that I’ve jotted down their storylines.

What would you say is your interesting writing quirk?

There were times when I had to bribe myself with Snickers bars to make myself write when I didn’t feel like it.

What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your books?

The most surprising aspect of writing Desperate Desires was how much I actually enjoyed writing the book. I had fun with the characters and I laughed when they laughed and cried when they cried.

What authors or friends influenced you in helping you become a writer?

My favorite author is John Connolly. I love Susan Johnson, Elizabeth Boyle, Robyn Williams, Lee Child, Scott Turrow, John Grisham, Dan Mahoney, Steven Bochco and Phillip Margolin. But of course, there are others!

What does your family think about your career as a published author?

Thus far, I’ve managed to keep it a quiet secret.

Besides writing, what other interests do you have?

Twice a month, I volunteer to tutor children, improving their literacy skills; gardening; animals; and of course reading.

Can you tell us about what’s coming up next for you writing wise?

The current project that I writing is a sequel to Desperate Desires. Readers have put a demand on know what transpired between Lucien and Lucinda at the end of Desperate Desires

ANY WICKED THING by Margaret Rowe

Blurb:

One disastrous night…

At twenty-one, Sebastian Goddard, heir to the duke of Roxbury, desperately sought diversion from a life smothered by peerage and position. His quest led him to one night of reckless passion, resulting in betrayal by his oldest friend Frederica Wells, and the discovery of his father’s darkest secret. Reeling from the devastation, he embarked on a ten-year debauch that well earned him the nickname–”Lord of Sin.”

One delicious bargain…

Now Sebastian has returned to find his late father’s estate in ruins and Freddie more seductive than ever. He’s determined to drive her from Goddard Castle to pay her back for her deception and to protect his own dark secret. But Freddie makes him an offer he can’t resist…she’ll be his mistress for a month if he’ll consent to sell her the crumbling castle afterward.

Everything he could desire…

The Lord of Sin plans to shock and scandalize Freddie—to tease her every desire and leave her wanting. But his fiery-willed lover soon teaches him the past may not be what it seemed, the present more tempting than he could have imagined, and the future filled with more promise than he dared dream. For thirty-one nights is not nearly enough when you’ve been given a license to do any wicked thing…

So, we just recently posted RRT's Best Books of 2010. My question to readers is this....

So far in 2010, what has been your favorite read? Sorry, only ONE choice. :)

US and Canada entries only.

I'll announce a winner later in the week.

Spotlight Review:

THE GUY NEXT DOOR – Lori Foster, Susan Donovan, Victoria Dahl
Harlequin Special Releases
ISBN: 978-0-373-77556-9
March 2011
Contemporary Romance Anthology

In this sizzling collection of engaging contemporary novellas, Lori Foster, Susan Donovan, and Victoria Dahl indulge your passion for romance and fun with three different sinfully seductive heroes.

Ready, Set, Jett – Lori Foster
Ohio and Tennessee – Present Day

School teacher Natalie Alexander is amazingly turned on by her sexy neighbor, Jett Sutter, and enjoys their unencumbered sex with no strings attached. But private eye Jett has done some digging to get some background on the close-mouthed Natalie who simply refuses to divulge any personal details about herself. The sex is over the top hot, and he’s more than satisfied, but he finds he needs and wants more than Natalie is willing to give. Confused about where this “non-relationship” may be heading, Natalie takes a solo trip to a lodge in Tennessee to sort things out in her head, but she’s in for a surprise when she realizes Jett won’t take no for an answer.

Lori Foster introduces a sexy new alpha who’s part of a group that can best be described as mercenaries and/or sexy security experts. This story introduces a few of the characters to come in her upcoming full length novel, WHEN YOU DARE, due to release in May 2011. I liked seeing a secure man like Jett wondering about his skills when he couldn’t get inside Natalie’s head, and despite his good looks, he really had to chase her down. His determination lands him all the way in another state, but will that be enough to change Natalie’s mind about commitment?

Gail’s Gone Wild – Susan Donovan
Key West, Florida – Present Day

Coming up with an alternative plan for Spring Break that will keep her teenage daughter and best friend happy, and allow her to realize a dream of a lifetime, English Professor Gail Chapman is thrilled for the opportunity to visit Key West. But the trip turns out to be not quite what she expects as her neighbor is George Clooney times 10! He’s so gorgeous that even her daughter is flabbergasted. After a bad experience, Jesse is a little gun shy about hooking up with beautiful women, as the last one nearly ruined his career and reputation. Still, something about Gail screams “normal” and he’s intrigued, and he manages to bring out the “wild side” of Gail.

In addition to being amazingly hot with an astounding body, Jess has a secret, and that’s one of the interesting parts of this story; even more tantalizing, is how Gail gets to let loose, getting caught up with Jesse’s sense of humor and releasing some of her inhibitions. Having her daughter Hannah in her corner pushing things along is fun to watch, and Susan Donovan does a good job of describing the interaction between mother and daughter while they’re on this exciting trip. But like all good things, the trip must end, so what happens when Gail goes back home to real life?

Just One Taste – Victoria Dahl
Boulder, Colorado – Present Day

Straight Arrow Eric Donovan is one of those men who follow every letter of the law and is incredibly responsible, so when he meets Beth Cantrell, the feisty employee of an erotic shop called the White Orchid, sparks fly! Finding Beth fun and open about life, Eric is roped in almost immediately. He’s amazed that she’s worked there for so long and seems so comfortable speaking about sexuality. Beth is truly fascinated by Eric’s deep blue eyes and kissable lips, making her want to know more.

Eric is one of three Donovan brothers, and Beth initially thinks he is someone else, and that starts the funny plot of the story. Ms. Dahl does a great job changing the pace by developing a hero who’s surprised and tempted by a woman who’s a little naughty, and despite all his best efforts, falls head over heels.

Successful and incredibly talented as individual authors, none of the three is capable of writing a bad novel, and they don’t disappoint this time either. As you’ll realize right away in each story, the theme is THE GUY NEXT DOOR, as each woman may have found the man of her dreams where she least expects. Entertaining and enjoyable, the only complaint I have is that these yummy stories were just too short! Readers may have their own personal favorites, but I felt a connection with all three couples and loved how each relationship blossomed believably, proving that it doesn’t take 500 pages to find true romance. Refreshing and unique, THE GUY NEXT DOOR will warm your heart.
