Mirabelle Island, Wisconsin – Present Day

Sarah Marshik, a wedding planner, is excited to have just purchased an old house. It needs a lot of work, but she has been saving for years for a place of her own. Her son, nine year old Brian, thinks it is a dump, but Sarah knows that when Garrett Taylor finishes the renovations, it will be a beauty. She is thrilled, and nothing will dampen her enthusiasm.

Jesse comes to stay with his older brother, Garrett, Sheriff of Mirabelle Island. Jesse has just been released from prison, but Garrett isn’t telling anyone the details. Because Garrett gets a chance at a lucrative job that he must do immediately, he recommends Jesse do the renovations on Sarah’s house. She is not happy with the situation, and she doesn’t like the fact that she is attracted to him. She has known enough bad boys in her life that she does not want her or her son to be around them. Garrett talks her into giving Jesse a chance.

Jesse is lonely wishing he could leave the small town. It is difficult seeing his older brother so happy when Jesse has nothing, even though he knows that he deserves what happened to him. Will the town forgive and embrace him? He is attracted to Sarah but knows she wants nothing to do with him. Will she change her mind when she hears the full story?

Ms. Brenna’s An Island to Remember series is very romantic and satisfying, and THE PURSUIT OF JESSE is a thoroughly enjoyable read. Readers can check in on characters from previous Mirabelle Island books to see what is happening in their lives and meet new characters who have moved to the small island; all the books can stand on their own for a wonderful reading experience. It is a nice town where most are friendly, but some look a bit askance at Jesse. Jesse must forgive himself for the past to find happiness in their future. They are both likeable characters who want to do the right thing.

Some romantic tension, good dialogue, and a heart-felt story make THE PURSUIT OF JESSE a must read. This reviewer is looking forward to the last two books in the series, HER SURE THING in August and REDEMPTION OF MIRABELLE in September.
