Q&A with Indigo Skye!
"Her Captive Muse," my first novel, has been picked up by Noble Romance Publishing. It was released in January, so I'm doing a lot of fun contests and giveaways on my blog to celebrate and help get the word out. This dark, twisted tale tells the story of Brendan Delaney, a young man caught in a web of seduction and obsession when he answers Morgan Roan's ad for an artist's model. What price pleasure?

2. Can you tell us a little about your favorite scene in the story?
My favorite scene in Her Captive Muse is a hot sex scene with a BDSM edge. It begins with silk scarves, and ends with ice cubes, a vibrator, and a riding crop. It was a lot of fun to write. I also enjoyed writing the last scene- but if you want to find out how it ends, you'll have to read the book!
3. When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?
I don't remember a time when I wasn't obsessed with books. I was blessed with a bookworm mother who taught me to read before I entered kindergarten, and I've rarely been without a book in my hand since. I started writing my own stories in elementary school, and always dreamed of getting published and having a writing career, making my living with my pen and my imagination. Other girls wanted to be doctors or veterinarians, mommies or teachers or astronauts- I've never wanted anything but this.
My Muse has a very dirty mind, and my imagination is a rich kingdom full of interesting characters, hot sex, and tricky plot twists. I'm a rabid people-watcher, and am often inspired by a snippet of overheard conversation that's none of my business. I love to sit in a coffee-shop and write about the other customers- their body language, the way they drink their cappucinos, their interactions with others are always intriguing to me. I'm inspired by the landscape of the American Southwest- deserts and mountains and endless blue skies surround me and nourish my creative soul.
5. What would you say is your interesting writing quirk?
I love to write in bed! I'm a Luddite at heart- if I could pen my novels with a quill on scrolls of parchment and ship them off to my editors via owl, I would. Instead, I fill multitudes of notebooks with my scribblings and convert them into a typed and legible form later, using my trusty laptop.
6. What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your books?
I'm kinkier than I ever imagined possible! I wrote literary fiction for years before discovering I had a talent for erotica. Now, hot sex is creeping into all of my stories, no matter what I'm writing.
7. What authors or friends influenced you in helping you become a writer?
I'd like to take a moment here to thank Keta Diablo, who helped me edit my novel, gave me fantastic suggestions and unconditional support, and introduced me to the fabulous team at Noble Romance Publishing. My writer's group has been instrumental in encouraging me to take my work to the next level. Natalie Goldberg, author of Writing Down the Bones and Wild Mind, has been an inspiration to me since high school, and her books on writing helped me learn to write "straight whiskey." I'm forever grateful to the folks who've contributed to my blog and featured my work on their websites- thanks for helping me get a strong start!
8. What does your family think about your career as a published author?
My man has been unstintingly supportive, and he's very proud of me. My girlfriends and the women in my writers' group have encouraged me every step of the way. I have chosen to use a pen name to protect my identity- which includes protecting certain family members from the disturbing knowledge that I've written a book about (gasp!) hot kinky bondage sex.
9. Besides writing, what other interests do you have?
Here in the Southwest, I'm surrounded by the mysteries of the ancient Anasazi. I love to spend time exploring the ruins they left behind, and wondering what life must have been like in those days. Recently, I was able to combine my interest in Anasazi ruins with my interest in hot kinky sex- I had a steamy encounter at the Lowry Ruins that I won't soon forget! I'm a nature girl, and when I'm hiking in the mountains or snowshoeing on a trail my earthly concerns fall away. I'm currently learning Italian and preparing for a trip to Europe.
10. Can you tell us about what’s coming up next for you writing wise?
I'm currently penning a sequel to Her Captive Muse, and hope to be releasing an excerpt soon. I've got another book that's being reviewed by editors at Noble as we speak- exciting stuff! I was recently chosen as a contributor to the anthology Uniform Behavior, edited by Lucy Felthouse, and I'll be offering exclusive interviews, guest blogs, and free reads by some of my fellow UB authors on my blog to support this project. I'm planning a blog tour this spring to celebrate the release of Her Captive Muse, and am really looking forward to an opportunity to share my work with a wider audience. I've been working on some hot new short fiction and erotic poetry, and am hoping to release a collection soon. There are a couple of novels and novellas in the works as well- I'm feeling very inspired.
