More from the conference....

Last night's booksigning was huge. Lots of authors and even more people there for the signing. Honestly, I didn't get to everyone I wanted to. Not enough time and it got hot in there. All those bodies....
Let's see....I stopped and spoke with Carly Phillips, Leslie Kelly, Toni Blake, Linnea Sinclair, Kate Douglas, Bonnie Edwards....and more than I can recall at the moment. It was fun and exhilerating.

Afterwards, went to Sherrilyn Kenyon's launch party for Acheron. The place was rocking. There were even a couple of cover models there for us to take pictures and drool over. Afterwards, I went to another party and closed it down well after 11pm.

Thursday morning... Got up this AM early to meet Sherrilyn Kenyon and Dianna Love Snell for breakfast. My friend Mo won a meal for 6 in Brenda Novak's auction and this was it. We had fun with Sherrilyn and Dianna and it was a great start to the day. Then onto RWA stuff, including the luncheon with Victoria Alexander as keynote speaker. She gave a very entertaining and inspiring talk. Workshops ran in the afternoon and I managed to get the the Red Sage Meet and Greet. Met lots of people there and got a copy of the latest Secrets book.
Tonight I'm just chilling out. Mo just back from the Kensington party. Tomorrow is a full day of workshops. I hope to blog some more...stay tuned!

A Perfect 10: THE FALL OF ROME by Beth Ciotta

THE FALL OF ROME - Beth Ciotta
Wild West Romance Series, Book 3
A Perfect 10
Medallion Press, Inc. - Medallion Press
ISBN-13: 978-1-933-83604-1
July 2008
Historical Romance

Casa Bend, Phoenix and other locations in Arizona Territory - 1878

Former Wells Fargo Detective Rome Garrett has killed a man. Now, he's sitting in a jail cell promising the Lord that he'll change his ways. His brother, Boston, isn't much help. Even though Boston was right there in the middle of the fight with him in the Tarantula Saloon, he's free to leave while Rome is still stuck in jail. But Boston can't help shooting a few wisecracks at Rome's ego before he walks out, leaving his brother stewing in anger and still making promises to the Almighty.

Former card shark turned saloon owner Jane Murdock, aka, Katrina Simmons, is at a crossroad. In order to protect her only living relative, her five-year-old niece Frankie, Kat changed her name six years ago and became just plain Jane, a disguise that's kept her well hidden from former lover, notorious outlaw Bulls-Eye Brady. Bulls-Eye will do anything to get back at Kat for running out on him, so when her sister died, Kat hid Frankie away in a convent to keep her safe. Kat has to bring Frankie home without Bulls-Eye finding either of them. It looks as if plain Jane has to disappear and become Katrina Simmons, gambler, once again. It's the only way Kat can think of to flush Bulls-Eye out of hiding so she can turn him over to the authorities and get on with her and Frankie's lives.

Rome's brother, London, left the family business in San Francisco and moved to Phoenix to be near their sister, Paris, and their other brother, Athens. The Last Chance Saloon doesn't have the glitz and glamour of San Francisco, but it's the perfect front for the PMA, or Peacemaker's Alliance, a covert organization headed by Athens Garrett, whose mission is to rid the West of lawlessness, and lastly, capture Bulls-Eye Brady once and for all. The outlaw's latest train robbery ended badly after Brady senselessly beat a woman to death and left a trail of other dead bodies in his gang's wake. For Athens, this particular job is personal, and he won't rest till Brady swings from the end of a rope. But the first step is finding Kat Simmons, pairing her up with Rome at the tables, and flushing Bulls-Eye out of the desert. This is one challenge Bulls-Eye Brady can't ignore -- his ex-lover and hated enemy, together again.

Back in Gila Gulch, London shows up and offers to bail Rome out of jail, on a condition. Rome doesn't have much choice but to agree to London's ultimatum: reunite with Kat Simmons and catch Bulls-Eye Brady. And once Katrina and Rome come together again, their passions ignite. Years ago they were lovers, but never friends; their relationship was built on lust, passion, and booze until Jed Brady waltzed into Kat's world and offered her a better life. Now, Kat regrets the mistakes she made with Rome, but the most important thing in her life is getting Frankie out of Brady's path of revenge. And if Kat can wipe Rome out of her heart along the way, that's even better. As for Rome, he wants to erase the memory of Kat's touch from his mind and exorcise the demons he faces each time he thinks of her, which is every waking moment. Only this time, he'll make her rue the day he walked into her room and found her with Bulls-Eye in bed.

All the players are in place, and it's a race back and forth across the Arizona Territory to save a little girl from a ruthless killer in the THE FALL OF ROME. The action takes place as each chapter unfolds by telling the story from multiple viewpoints. Bulls-Eye is a deadly and crazed killer chasing after Frankie, who he thinks will bring him to Kat. Meanwhile, Seth and Rome both go looking for Kat; London Garrett falls for a woman who is not who she pretends to be; Boston has disappeared while searching for Frankie; and Athens is left trying to save them all.

Non-stop action, lively characters, and a red hot story put THE FALL OF ROME on the top of this month's do-not-miss reads. Each and every character is fully drawn and leads us through several interacting plot threads that blend perfectly into an intricately woven tapestry at the story's end. This is the third and final book in Beth Ciotta's Wild West Romance series that began with LASSO THE MOON (February 2006) and ROMANCING THE WEST (October 2007). If you love wild and wooly Western tales, this series is for you! My only regret is that the trilogy is at the end, but I wonder what happened to brother Boston Garrett's story? I am hoping Ms. Ciotta will bring us another chapter in this wonderful series.

THE FALL OF ROME is a flawlessly choreographed dance full of fun characters, suspense, and passion, and earns RRT's Perfect 10 Award! Don't miss this book!

Hello from San Francisco!

Arrived Monday evening at the hotel after spending the afternoon in Airports. Other than them changing my gate in Seattle, it was uneventful flying.

Caught up with a friend and we rode a taxi to the hotel and from then on it's been hectic. Met Jennifer Y again. Many of you know her from Jennifer's Random Musings. She is a sweetheart in real life just she is online.

We ordered in Chinese food and ate here at the hotel. What can a I say...it was delicious! A bunch of us stayed up late and chatted. The hotel is fabulous. There is also another conference in the area (Not at the hotel) so a lot of people around. The room has a view of other buildings, but oh, well....how often is one in their room??
Tuesday we did a five hour tour of San Francisco and it was great. Our driver was knowledgeable and funny. I would highly recommend this tour agency. Met another blogger for the first time...Katiebabs. She is a hoot and funny and very energetic. Had lots of fun talking to her.

Btw, keep your eyes open on the Today show. They're going to be around filming the conference.

Authors galore running around. Have seen SEP a couple of times. Jane Porter too. Chatted with Virginia Kantra this morning. The place is jam packed with authors and every time you turn around, there's another one. Tonight is the big booksigning and afterwards, I have a couple of parties to attend.

I hope to get a chance to blog tomorrow, but likely will be late.

A Perfect 10: THE MYLARI CHRONICLES by C.J. England

Romantic Fantasy

Oregon, Calen’taur - ¬Present Day

Talia has come home after two years of college to tell her parents she wants to travel in Europe. Instead of gaining their blessing, she bitterly argues with them and plans to leave the next morning. Instead, Talia is kidnapped by hideous creatures and dropped straight into an alternate world that could have existed in one of J. R. R. Tolkien’s novels. Fortunately for Talia, Calion Sáralondë, Prince of the Calen’taur Elves, was on patrol when her disgustingly ugly and smelly captors, the Orcs, brought her into his world. He rescues her from certain rape.

Calion is taken with the beautiful human from the first moment he sees her tied and staked in the Orcan castle. Sparks fly and passion literally flames in their eyes as the elf prince and Talia fight a forbidden love. While they are escaping the monsters, they overhear a plot to stop a prophecy from coming true. How can it be that Talia is part of an Orcan prophecy, and what does this mean for the future of the elvish world?

Calion and Talia return to his father’s castle to search for a prophecy that involves a human woman and could predict the fate of Calion’s world. They struggle to hide their true feelings for each other. If the other elves discover that they have made love and broken the taboo, the couple could be put to death.

EYES OF FIRE is a fantastic tale of love, danger, and suspense in the fairy world. C.J. England does an incredible job creating an alternate dimension and a language for the fairies. I could easily picture the plants and animals unique to that world. The elves’ language is easy to follow and translations are handy.

The theme of forbidden love is not new to romance novels, but EYES OF FIRE creates a wonderful emotional rollercoaster that will have readers crying buckets for Talia, groaning at Calion, and finally smiling when the couple gets their relationship right. The suspense of secret prophecy, threat of war, and social challenges make this book a must read. I am on pins and needles until the next book in the series is available. I rate C.J. England’s EYES OF FIRE a Perfect 10.

A Perfect 10: QUEEN OF BABBLE GETS HITCHED by Meg Cabot

New York City, New York - Present Day

Wedding gown restorer Lizzie Nichols is thrilled to finally be engaged to Luke de Villiers. When they broke up a month ago (he wasn’t sure he saw her in his future), Lizzie was devastated. It seems that her prince, if the French still recognized their aristocracy, has realized just what he lost. Now if she can just get Chaz Pendergast out of her bed before Luke comes back, Lizzie can have her happy ending. While nothing happened between them the night before, except for a really nice make-out session, Lizzie definitely does not want Luke to know about it. Chaz isn’t thrilled to find out that Lizzie is getting back together with his best friend. He tells Lizzie that not only can’t Luke commit to anything, but that he is the wrong man for her. But she is sure that Luke is the man for her, after all she spent six months living with him. So why does Lizzie feel sick every time she thinks about her engagement?

A wedding gown she restored is a hit on Page Six, and the phones begin to ring off the hook at work. When Monsieur Henri, owner of the bridal shop, has a heart attack, Lizzie is left in charge. With an overwhelming amount of work to do, she reluctantly hires her former coworker and model, Tiffany, to answer phones. The jaded Tiffany is also less than thrilled with Lizzie’s engagement and offers constant advice on finding out if Luke really is Mr. Right. In fact, Lizzie is finding out that no one is happy that she is getting back together with Luke, and with the constant voice of Chaz in her mind discussing all of the reasons why Luke is Mr. Wrong, Lizzie throws herself into her work to avoid answering some difficult questions.

Adding to Lizzie’s confusion are her nonagenarian grandmother; her best friend, and Chaz’s ex-girlfriend, Shari; celebutante (a la Paris Hilton) Ava Geck; and Monique, another model and friend of Tiffany's. Lizzie doesn’t want her best friend, Shari, to know that she made out with her ex, so she doesn’t have anyone whom she can fully confide in. Her Gran, Ava, Tiffany, and Monique all think she should sleep with Chaz and then decide whom she wants to be with. But she keeps assuring herself that she loves Luke, even as she breaks out in hives at the thought of their wedding. Lizzie’s whole world is changing. Will it be for the better, or is it getting ready to collapse?

QUEEN OF BABBLE GETS HITCHED is filled with the humor, sass, and pathos that has defined Lizzie’s story. Lizzie is filled with Midwestern values and determination. If she could only control what comes out of her mouth, life would be perfect. She is trying to make her dreams a reality, but suddenly finds out she isn’t sure what her dreams are. Chaz is realistic and honest in what he wants from Lizzie. Luke’s smooth charm and romance hide a narcissistic streak that results in casual cruelty. Strong writing, witty dialogue, a wonderful story, and great characters are the highlights that mark the finale of the series and earn it an RRT Perfect 10 award. Readers will not be able to put this book down until the surprising and satisfying conclusion. Don’t miss the clever and light-hearted QUEEN OF BABBLE GETS HITCHED.

A Perfect 10- DIE SLOWLY FOR ME by T.L. Gray

Romantic Suspense

Fort Bragg, California – Present Day

Marshall Eastwood is a sharpshooter with the Delta Force, and he’s one of the best. Every mission is a battle for him to fight the demon within that simply wants to open fire on vicious enemies and kill them -- but so far, he’s fought the demon and not become judge, jury, and executioner. However, that may all change when his control is tested off the battlefield, and he finds himself fighting the urge to kill those who threaten the woman he’s falling for.

Nikki Jones is the first woman to become a Blackhawk helicopter pilot in the Delta Force and to fly the team in and out of dangerous situations. Having a woman on the team doesn’t sit well with most of the team members, but the brass on high is calling the shots, and Nikki is their poster girl.

Nikki has worked hard to get where she is, and she isn’t going to let any of the men intimidate her into leaving. She’s fought and bled and she never forgets it. Nikki is not overly friendly with the team members off base, and one in particular she tries to stay away from, Marshall Eastwood. Nikki is attracted to Marshall, but getting involved with him is not a possibility. It would ruin her career, and she has so much personal baggage she doesn’t allow anyone to get close. That all changes, however, when her past comes back to haunt her, and she begins to fear that no matter how hard or how far she runs, she can’t escape her past. When Marshall learns that Nikki is being threatened and her life may be in danger, he immediately steps in, and not only tries to take over, he moves into her home and her bed. But if Nikki isn’t honest with Marshall, he can’t protect her...and both of them may pay a very high price.

DIE SLOWLY FOR ME is an incredible novel. From the first page, the reader engages with the characters and is inextricably drawn into the story. The character development is superb, and each character is meticulously crafted. Nikki is a woman who has led a hard life beginning with the murder of her mother and then being shuttled through the foster care system. It is only sheer grit and determination that allow Nikki to overcome her past and attain the success she has today. However, she has also isolated herself, never letting anyone get too close emotionally, something she’ll have to overcome if she is going to trust Marshall and allow him into her heart. Marshal is the ultimate hero. In the beginning he is all alpha male -- the big tough soldier with an attitude. However, as more of his character is revealed, readers will fall in love with him. He’s tough, hard and brave, but his heart is tender and he’s not afraid of showing tenderness to those he cares for.

A tale of romance and high adrenalin suspense, DIE SLOWLY FOR ME is a novel you will not want to miss. I highly recommend DIE SLOWLY FOR ME to fans of authors such as Linda Howard and Suzanne Brockman. A terrific read and an RRT Perfect 10!

Do you read.....

.....Harlequin Presents?

I do pick them up on occasion to read. I have several on my to be read pile.

I consider them my trashy comfort reads. Why, do you ask? Because I am one of those who bemoan the uber alpha male and the heroine who just lets him basically walk all over her. I prefer heroines with a little bit more oomph in how they interact with the hero. Harlequin Presents are the ultimate Alpha Male heroes but also provide for some sizzling love scenes. Some of my favorite early authors were Carole Mortimer and Penny Jordan and Violet Winspear.

But....even I have to admit Harlequin Presents has changed. Authors like Lucy Monroe and Miranda Lee have helped pave the way.

I read the very first Harlequin Presents that came out. Gosh...a long time ago! Greeks, Italians and Sheiks...oh my!

My question for you is--Do you have your trashy comfort read that you pick up?
Tell us about it and I'll put your name in a drawing for a...you guessed it...a Harlequin Presents. Winner to be chosen Sunday Friday night!

The Millionaire's Inexperienced Love-Slave by Miranda Lee

August 2008

Adrian Palmer, a millionaire architect, always had a beautiful woman in his bed. When he met Sharni Johnson, a pretty young widow, she seemed perfect for his wicked brand of seduction. And wicked it was; he was blown away by the intensity of their lovemaking.

But Sharni was not a one-night-stand kind of girl. Adrian was prepared to do anything to have her—but there was one problem: he was the spitting image of Sharni's late husband….

Spotlight Review - RESCUE ME

RESCUE ME – Cherry Adair, Lora Leigh, Cindy Gerard
St. Martin's Press
ISBN: 978-0-312-94842-5
July 2008
Contemporary Romance Anthology

Lose yourself in these three stories in which alpha males protect their women as they are on the run from those who wish them dead…

Tropical Heat by Cherry Adair
Congo Basin, Central Africa – Present Day

Doctor Elizabeth Goodall has been mistaken for another doctor. The terrorist, Tau Thadiwe, kidnapped her in order to do reconstructive surgery on his face. She knows if she tells the crazed Thadiwe that he has the wrong doctor, he will kill her. She goes along with him, praying that she will be saved.

Elizabeth does have a savior by the name of Sam Pelton, a tactical instructor who specializes in training special ops in weaponry. Seth has come halfway around the world to save Beth because he is in love with her. Beth is scared to death, but when she sees Sam has come to her rescue, her fear turns to relief. Soon these two are on the run through the jungles of Africa as man and beast try to take them down.

Tropical Heat is the best short story in this anthology, and Cherry Adair sure knows how to write tension-filled scenes along with some great chemistry between Beth and Sam. I couldn't look away from the pages as they try to make a run towards freedom. And even though the enemy is right on their heels, that didn't stop them from making love in a tree; that I may not recommend, but give it to Cherry to make it steamy and so very good. Tropical Heat certainly does heat up the pages and is one story I really enjoyed.

Atlanta Heat - Lora Leigh
Atlanta, Georgia – Present Day

Navy SEAL Lieutenant Mason "Macey" Madison has it bad for his Admiral's goddaughter, Miss Emerson Delaney. Macey knows touching Emerson in any way would mean trouble, but she doesn't seem to mind teasing him every chance she gets. He can hardly hold back his lust, and because of that, the Admiral finds Macey and Emerson in a compromising position and reams Macey a new one.

Three weeks later, Emerson has been kidnapped by a terrorist and white slavery organization that Admiral Holloran thought he had destroyed. Now the remaining few in that organization have kidnapped Emerson to strike back at him. Holloran expects Macey to find Emerson and save her.

Macey saves Emerson and must keep her under lock and key until the terrorists have been taken care of. Macey wants to lay claim to Emerson, but how will he explain to her godfather that he is the man who is perfect for his princess?

Lora Leigh has written a steamy tale with Atlanta Heat. You have a man and woman who yearn for each other, but because Macey feels he should be respectful towards Emerson, the loving goddaughter of his superior, he holds back. Of course, Emerson is on a mission to make Macey loose control. These two flirt like crazy, and not even Emerson's fear of Macey's pet snake will stop her from owning Macey's heart, even if Drack watches them get down and dirty.

Lora Leigh is always an author to count on with her sexy heroes and the women who are their equals, and Atlanta Heat is one such read that won't leave you out in the cold.

Desert Heat – Cindy Gerard
The Grand Canyon, Arizona - Present Day

ADA Elena Martinez and police Detective Seth King have signed up for a two-day survival scavenger hunt in the Grand Canyon. Elena may think of Seth as some nice looking eye candy but she finds him to be a pain in her butt and is not too keen on the idea of being paired with him on this hunt. But she also thinks Seth is a good cop, and he seems to know his way through the canyon trail. Perhaps she can find out more about this man who heats up her blood.

Seth is very much attractive to this cute assistant district attorney even though she tends to tick him off. As they camp out, their attraction for each other leads to some interesting campfire action. But the tables turn deadly as Seth and Elena must find a way to escape from the men who are out to kill them even if it means trekking through the treacherous caves and swimming through rapids in the harsh Desert Heat.

Cindy Gerard sure knows how to write a suspenseful tale of a man and woman hiding from enemies who have no qualms about toying with their lives. Even though Seth and Elena may not make it out with their lives intact, these are two strong characters with a great will to live. It was very interesting to see Elena take care of Seth. These two come to the realization about their feelings for each other and act on their attraction in Desert Heat, a story that most Cindy Gerard fans will enjoy.

Cherry Adair, Lora Leigh, and Cindy Gerard are three incredible authors who write sexy heroes and the women who are their perfect partners in every way. With exciting stories heavy on adventure and romance, don't miss out on this great anthology, RESCUE ME.

Guest Blogger: Jessica Inclan

Hi, All!

It is a pleasure to be here with you blogging and thinking and sharing ideas. I blog regularly at http://www.redroom.com/, but it is a pleasure and privilege to be here.

Because I am just starting a new romance this week (my last was Being with Him), I have been thinking about romance novels and why we love them so much. I think the main reason is because romance catches us at the beginning of a love story, at the place that is beautiful and perfect and amazing. That’s where I want to work toward in all my stories, though I know some romances go further into a marriage, further into the story. And, sometimes, the lovers part ways. But mostly, we are at that beginning. That joy. That excitement. It’s what we want to have ourselves—and we likely have at some point in our lives and we want to relive it. Who wouldn’t? What comes next in the true story of our lives isn’t often in a romance novel, but it is what can happen. The marriage and then, maybe, the divorce.

Unfortunately, I’ve just been divorced. No one really goes into a marriage saying, “Okay, I’ll be married for a little over twenty years, and then it’s over.” After many years of life and after listening to friends who have gone through divorce, you'd think I would have understood the process. But I guess the part that I understood or thought I understood and thought was the hardest part was the actual separating. The leaving. That part where two people decide that it's not working--or one person decides and then the other goes along with the idea, either happily or kicking and screaming or with a shrug. Actually, there is no shrugging in leaving. There are tears and feelings of loss and betrayal and excitement and guilt and sadness and remorse and unworthiness and glee and joy and misery and exuberance and fear and hatred and love and longing. But no shrugging.

Then there is the part where you continue to stay apart and learn how to live alone again. I've had friends call me during this dark night of the soul, the hard times at night, alone in the marriage queen-sized bed. That's a whole matinee's worth of tales--you can hear the opening film credits, the sad music playing as we see the sad character alone clutching her pillow. But then the music changes, gets happier, more lively as the person learns to live again. But I think I got that part, too. The leaving and then the figuring out.

Here is the one story about divorce that always worried me, even when I was married. A Friend and her husband broke up, and he left her in the house, along with the mortgage payments. Written up into the settlement was the item that she would buy him out of the house when their youngest daughter graduated from high school. Meanwhile, this said former husband went on the make a huge pile of money, buying a huge house, taking his daughters off on vacations to Fiji and other tropical climes, and my friend lived in the little house by the freeway quite happily, but clearly not high on the hog.

I was so worried for her that he would make her live up to that part of the settlement. How could he? How would he? The stress continued. And then, finally, I heard that he never said a thing. Never asked for half the money for the house, which, by now had shot up in Bay Area prices. She made it!

Okay, that's an after story. That's an after the leaving and the getting used to leaving. That's a divorce story kind of in the The First Wives' Club vein that I needed to hear more about. I thought that novel and movie were made up! I thought they were fiction.
Where was I living? Under a rock?

The deal is this. Money and pensions and artwork and china and college funds and money relatives lent during the marriage all come into play. It gets ugly--who pays for what? How much does a marriage cost? Do you really own half of things I created in the marriage? Do I really own half of everything that's yours? How much do I owe for loving you? For leaving you? For wanting to kill you!

Here's the thing. No matter what happened in the marriage at the end, in the beginning and probably for a long time, there was this person you loved. There was likely that part that is in romance novels. Here was this person you really liked enough to get married and have a couple of children. Here's this person who will know you in a way that really no other person can know you. If you married young as I did, here's this man who watched me grow up--and I had a lot of growing to do. We stood by each other through parts of our lives that weren't so great. We were broke together, finally bought houses together, loved each other and our children. I will always know him, even though I will likely not see him much for the rest of my life. His jokes, his mannerisms, his smells, his voice, his words--they are all in me. What he said to me over the course of 23 years and who he is is imprinted on my heart and mind. No matter the before leaving and after leaving, he is likely the most important man in my life, regardless of everything else.

And now we are fighting about money and old debts and house insurance and senior year photos. We email to each other with the gloves off. We can't even begin to talk on the phone. And we've already signed the papers!

I probably should go to the library and look for a n After Divorce for Dummies book. There has to be one. Clearly, I need it.

What words of advice or thoughts do you have about divorce? Stories about love? Romance novels at the beginning of the relationship and staying there?

Chicago, Illinois ~ Present Day

Annie Davis is desperate. After telling her family she’s met a nice guy, it turns out he’s married! Now she needs a date for her parent’s big anniversary party that’s coming up. Pushed into finding her “date” at a charity bachelor auction, Annie can barely take her eyes off Bachelor #20.

He’s handsome. Check.
He’s got a cute brogue. Check.
He’s an EMT. Check.
She just broke her bank account “buying” him. Check.

However, there’s one little problem that Annie doesn’t yet know about Bachelor #20. The bios of him and another man got switched, and her date is not who she thinks he is. Turns out her hot bachelor, Sean Murphy, gets paid to escort rich women to functions, plus provides a little bit more special servicing…

Sean is intrigued by sweet daycare owner Annie and isn’t sure how she’ll react to finding out he’s a gigolo. When she asks him to accompany her to her hometown for the party, he’s enamored enough of her to accept. Of course, they need to get to know each other very well before the function. Something they both enjoy doing quite a lot.

From this very funny premise is born HEATED RUSH, and it had me laughing out loud several times. Annie left her hometown to make a life for herself in Chicago and knows if she comes to the anniversary party dateless, her family will be matchmaking and pressuring her to return home. So, she needs to find a substitute fast. Sean certainly fits the bill. (Think a younger Pierce Bronson but with longish hair and an earring.) Will Annie be able to fool her family into thinking Sean is her boyfriend and keep her hands off him while under her parents' roof?

Sean left his home in Ireland at an early age and still can’t see eye to eye with his controlling father. Annie is cute and adorable, but Sean isn’t into cute relationships. Oh, he has an international business on the side, but he’s heavily in demand by the ladies. He figures Annie will be a good short fling before he leaves Chicago, but will their time together make it harder for him to depart?

Once again, Leslie Kelly provides readers with a sexy, witty, romantic, and all around fun story to read. Hand it to Ms. Kelly for making a gigolo a hero to love. Annie and Sean are not only a great couple, but the chemistry between them burns hotter than molten lava, with sizzling sex scenes to go along with the snappy dialogue. I must say that after reading HEATED RUSH, I want my own Sean Murphy. (Of course, for free.) Run, do not walk to the nearest bookstore today and grab your own copy.

Spotlight Review: BLUSH by Opal Carew

BLUSH – Opal Carew
St. Martin's Griffin
ISBN-13: 978-0-312-36779-4
July 2008
Erotic Contemporary Romance

Mid Atlantic State – Present day

For a beautiful woman living with the man she loves, Hanna should be happy. But Hanna has two problems, one is she has never reached an orgasm; and her boyfriend Grey, won't say he loves her. After living together for a year, she finally told Grey that she loved him, but he never replied. It's been two months since Hanna decided they should break up, and he has moved to New York. Before he moved out, Grey signed them both up for a class at the university called "Kama Sutra for the Beginner." Hanna is too embarrassed to take the class by herself, even though she is determined that by hook or by crook she wants an orgasm, she needs an orgasm, and feels she deserves one. Let's join Hanna on her quest to find sexual fulfillment.

J.M. is the teacher of the Kama Sutra class and, as a master of tantric sex, he’s able to hold off an orgasm for as long as he wants. He’s met a beautiful woman in the Hot Spot Cafe who piques his interest, and has been returning there several days a week. But one night when he goes to the cafe to ask the beautiful woman on a date, she surprises him. Before you can blink an eye, they are having sex at a table, but she is definitely trying too hard. He can tell she is putting herself under too much tension, and the tentative orgasm she almost reaches escapes her. After this wild but totally unexpected sexual romp, J.M. becomes determined to be the one to help her achieve the ultimate sensual experience. He has the credentials to be her teacher, and when he hears she is thinking of taking his class he is excited, until she chickens out. How can he bring up the fact that he’s the teacher of her class when her old boyfriend comes back to attend?

Grey Bennet loves Hanna. He really does, he has since he first met her, and their life together was great, except for her inability to achieve sexual completeness. But the reason he was afraid to tell Hanna he loved her was because he's scared of the next step. An illness as a child has left him sterile, and he doesn't want to put pressure on Hanna to decide whether she wants to forget about having children someday. But after moving away from Hanna's, he is still determined to take the Kama Sutra class even if she doesn't. He knows she loves him, and now he has to kick it up and satisfy her body in all ways.

Well, Hanna has quite a conundrum to solve. J.M. is almost at the point of giving her the orgasm she's looked for all her life, and she knows he can do it. Grey is still in her life, and it's hard to ignore someone you spent over a year living with and loving, even if he couldn't make the ultimate decision for their future. Trying to juggle two men takes all her time and all her mental abilities. Is it really possible to desire two men? Where can this all lead to?

Opal Carew is a new writer to me, and has written one sizzling hot story that will grab your interest and keep you avidly turning the pages to see what she has up her sleeve next. The story is told in each of the individual’s point of view, and their fears and hidden desires are revealed to us as they try to all come to terms with their intertwined sexual desires. Hot sex, interesting characters and personalities that we can empathize with make BLUSH a story that will keep your attention all the way through. Like her name, BLUSH is a gem of a story, and perhaps tantric sex is something we might be interested in.

The three central characters are the only ones worth mentioning, along with Hanna's sister Grace who makes brief appearances to give Hanna advice. Hanna, Grey and J.M. form a group of lovers who grab your attention and don't leave room for anyone else.

If hot sex and a menage a trois excites your interest, BLUSH is sure to fit the bill. Full of erotic sex and superlative writing, it should be on your reading list this month.

Guest Blogger: What Makes a Hero Hot? by Jasmine Haynes

Thanks so much for having me as your guest. I’m excited to have Berkley releasing Show and Tell this month, the second book in a trilogy that began with The Fortune Hunter, winner of the Holt Medallion for erotic romance. To celebrate the release of Show and Tell this month, I will be doing a drawing from amongst the people who comment on today’s blog for an autographed copy of The Fortune Hunter. So be sure to comment!

Here’s a little tidbit about Show and Tell to whet your appetite. All her life Trinity Green has been a pleaser, first her mom and dad, then her husband. When she walks in on her husband with another woman, she realizes that trying to be the perfect wife with never a hair out of place or a smudge of makeup beneath her eyes was all for nothing. Now she's going to indulge herself, with good food, delicious wine, and hot sex. Then she meets the perfect man under the oddest of circumstances.

Okay, in Show and Tell, Scott Sinclair is my hero, so I think he’s totally hot because I got to create him just the way I wanted him. See, there are great things to being a writer! He’s divorced and he has two college-age daughters (yeah, he’s an older guy, ‘cause I also think older men are totally hot). One of the things that I really liked about him was that he was a good husband and father, even if he was a workaholic. He didn’t have a terrible, destructive marriage. He loved his wife. He wanted his marriage to last the rest of his life. But instead of something like infidelity or nasty, knock-down, drag-out fights, his wife simply checked out of the marriage emotionally. She was there, but she was emotionally unavailable. It was as if she couldn’t care less whether he was living with her or not. Despite his efforts, he couldn’t get her to care again. The end of his marriage didn’t leave him bitter, it just left him needing a vibrant, passionate, committed relationship. I think that’s what most of us want, but sometimes we let kids and finances and jobs get in the way. Of course, Scott’s soon going to meet Trinity, and maybe, if he’s lucky, she might be just what he’s looking for. Then again, maybe...

I hope you will take a few moments to read the Show and Tell excerpt up on my site, because it’s all about hot Scott: http://www.skullybuzz.com/home.html

And I’d love to hear what makes a hero totally hot for you.

Fair Play, the third book in The Fortune Hunter trilogy arrives in April 2009. I also have an anthology coming out in December 2008, Unlaced, with stories by three other great writers, Jaci Burton, Joey Hill, and Denise Rossetti. In addition to Jasmine Haynes, many of you know me as Jennifer Skully, writing over-the-top (hopefully hilarious) romantic mysteries, and as JB Skully, I’ve created the Max Starr psychic mystery series. Readers can learn more about all my pseudonyms at http://www.skullybuzz.com/.

And don't miss my contest with lots of free books and lots of winners, going on now at http://www.skullybuzz.com/contest.html

A Perfect 10: INTO THE SHADOW by Christina Dodd

INTO THE SHADOW - Christina Dodd
Darkness Chosen, Book 3
A Perfect 10
Signet
ISBN: 978-451-22451-4
July 2008
Paranormal Romance

The Himalayan Mountains on the Nepal-Tibetan Border, the Present

Motherless since five, Karen Sonnet was raised by her father to be tough, to be a survivor. It looks as though she'll need all her skills to fulfill her assignment as project manager on this latest addition to Jackson Sonnet's international chain of adventure hotels. This job has more than its share of problems; its superstitious construction crew believes the location is unlucky, even evil. The one bright spot of the job is the nightly visit of her mysterious lover.

A millennium ago, a sadistic warrior named Konstantine Varinski made a deal with the devil so that he and all his descendants could change at will into fierce, predatory animals and birds. The cost? Their immortal souls, of course. What other coin does the devil deal in? Since the bargain was struck, the Varinskis have multiplied by impregnating as many women -- willing or not -- as possible. And they only ever have sons. The large Varinski tribe still flourishes today as killers for hire. But forty years ago, the contemporary Konstantine broke from the pack; he fell in love with a Romany woman and gave up the family trade and name. Konstantine and Zoranna moved to the U.S. and grow grapes in Washington State as the Wilders. They produced four children, three sons and -- miraculously -- one daughter. The male Wilders still have the ability to change, but Konstantine has done his best to teach his sons to battle against losing their humanity. How well he succeeded with two of his sons can be found in the first two books of the Darkness Chosen series, SCENT OF DARKNESS and TOUCH OF DARKNESS. This is the tale of the Wilder who stepped into the dark.

Aldrik Wilder is an unknown name in the mountains and valleys between Tibet and Nepal that give cover to mercenaries and bandits. Another name is well known and feared, however, and that is simply Warlord. Warlord rules the area with a loyal band of followers who prey on tourists and others. Was he in his panther form when he first caught the scent of the woman at the construction site?

Whether the locals are right and Mount Anayo is taking revenge against the workers who uncovered an ancient grave or it is merely indifferent nature that starts the huge landslide doesn't matter in the end. What matters is that Karen is there to rescue an icon of the Virgin Mary from the clasp of the child in the grave before she's rescued by her night visitor...the visitor she wasn't sure was real or a dream. Oh, Warlord is real, all right. He's saved Karen's life and he's keeping her -- willing or not.

Just how deep into evil has Aldrik sunk? Can Karen and love redeem a soul so lost? When the pact with the devil was made a thousand years ago, the Varinski family icon was torn into four parts and flung to the corners of the world. The devil doesn't like that two of the four parts have been found. All the many murderous Varinskis are determined to stop the parts from coming together lest they lose their powers. They must keep the icon Karen found from joining the two in the Wilders' possession.

INTO THE SHADOW is a powerful book, sensual, even erotic, but also otherworldly and mystical. Warlord is an unlikely hero. In fact, he reminded me somewhat of those old bodice ripper romances in which the heroine was ravished against her will until she fell in love with her ravisher. I should have remembered that Ms. Dodd is better than that. While INTO THE SHADOW is darker than its predecessors, the series is about redemption of condemned souls, after all. (Konstantine is ill and his soul will suffer in hell for eternity like all Varinskis if his sons and their loves are not able to unite the parts of the icon.) Warlord shows what can happen when someone gives in to his darkest urges. How and when Aldrik comes out of the shadow makes a compelling story.

The characterizations of both Aldrik (Warlord) and Karen are deep and moving, and so is the tale of their love. For it does eventually come to that, but a more turbulent love affair would be hard to find. There will be separation, more danger, a happy reunion...the plot is rich in emotional as well as exciting scenes. Minor characters play important parts, Warlord's lieutenant for one, Karen's father, and some very nasty Varinskis to name a few others. Still to come, however, is the much anticipated book about the first Varinski (Wilder) daughter to be born in a thousand years. That one will contain a few surprises, and you can take that to the bank.

I don't award many Perfect 10s. I thought about doing so for INTO THE SHADOW because of its power, but hesitated because Warlord had committed so many evil deeds. But then I realized that that is one of the things that make this book so powerful. What is the redemption of a mildly naughty boy compared to what Aldrik goes through? Georgy Porgy compared to Crime and Punishment? Well, maybe Aldrik isn't quite that tortured. But here it is: I enthusiastically award a Perfect 10 to Christina Dodd's INTO THE SHADOW.
