I was going to say The Shining by Stephen King, but then I remembered Helter Skelter by Vincent Bugliosi. That one actually gave me nightmares. *shivers*

Oh I heard about this book! I wondered how scary it was and too, if the romance was a strong part of the book or not. I shall be reaidng the reviews. I'm such a wimp, I don't read horror, LOL (But love my vamps and werewolves, LOL)
But it had to be CARRIE by Stephan King. It was the thing to read in HS, horror books so I went with the flow and was reading it in my desk while teacher talked (I had no interpreter then so had no idea what they said) so I read, LOL. I got tapped on the shoulder and flew out of my chair, LOL.
Sorry you just wanted the title but had to tell you the story, LOL.
The scariest book to me is Carrie by Stephen King! It may be a short book but really frightening! Gave me nightmares too once. Yeah, I'm that easily scared. :)

I'll say Red Dragon by Thomas Hardy, only because I couldn't pick just one from the many scary books of Dean R. Koontz.
I agree with most of the previous posters about Stephen King being a scary writer but in fact the scariest book I ever read was 'To the Devil A Daughter' by Dennis Wheatley. Mind you being pregnant at the time of reading the birthing scene probably had a lot to do with it. I actually won't read horror anymore becaue of it!!
