SNAP! - Shelley Munro

ISBN: 1-60186-075-7
January 2007
Erotic Contemporary Romance
Heat Level: 4 Triskels

Radford, New Zealand – the Present

Alice Beasley is a twenty-five year old almost virgin who knows next to nothing about sex. Ironically, this prim and proper accountant inherits a condom company from her deceased aunt with the stipulation that she must manage the company for six months to receive $300,000. Alice’s first response is to turn down the offer, but her fiancĂ© Steven’s controlling behavior and her growing student loans make her accept the offer. Steven walks away from Alice without a backward glance and Alice begins her new life as the manager of Fancy Free, a condom and sex toy company.

Alice doesn’t have to worry about her lack of management skills because her aunt intended for her to run the company along with the current manager, James Bates. He is a good looking bad boy who Alice is determined to share her first sexual experience with. Now, all she has to do is figure out how to get him into bed. Her opportunity comes when they are forced to look for new condom testers. Somehow, their last project was leaked to a competitor who introduced an identical condom into the market two weeks before Fancy Free’s condom hit stores. Never one to pass on a great opportunity, Alice grabs the chance to jump James’s bones and volunteers to conduct the tests of the eight new condoms with him. Talk about mixing business with pleasure!

Alice is just as green as a new leaf and is ready to experience all that life has to offer. Her prudish boyfriend Steven was not interested in sex but she considered him safe. But a safe man and a safe life are no longer on her to do list. She wants a real man and sexy James fits the bill perfectly. James is not the sex machine he is purported to be and is hurt that Alice believes all of the rumors circulating about him. He is not accustomed to small town life in Radford and has plans to leave as soon as he can. When he sees Alice’s perfect body, he is amazed that she hides herself behind frumpy clothes and is determined to make her feel as beautiful as she looks.

SNAP! is a hoot of a tale that will have you laughing and becoming extremely aroused at the same time. The characters are robust and the small town life of Radford is charming and original. SNAP! has a bit of a mystery that will have you guessing who is behind the company sabotage. Each of the events leading to the end will keep you reading and clicking to the next page. I recommend SNAP! to anyone looking for a well written mildly erotic tale.

Spotlight review on.....Captain's Lady

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

CAPTAIN’S LADY – Sharon Milburn
Cerridwen Press's Cotillion Line – www.cerridwenpress.com
ISBN: 9781419907999
January 2007
Regency Romance

England – 19th Century

Alice Carstairs knows how one can be very creative with a turnip, but if she never sees one again, it will be too soon. A cousin of Lavinia Masterman, Alice was taken into the Masterman household as no more than a servant and nanny for Lavinia’s two daughters, Penelope and an infant daughter that Lavinia hasn’t seen fit to name. Alice suffered greatly when her father shamed the family and was called a traitor, but her situation has gone from bad to worse since Lavinia’s husband, Sir Gregory’s, death. Now, they’re not much more than paupers, thanks to Gregory’s mishandling of the family’s funds. The family attorney takes great pride in waving their misfortunes in front of Alice’s nose, but she is determined to keep her chin up and make the best of a bad situation. She does not know how to feel when she learns of Gregory’s brother, Captain Edward Masterman’s inheritance of the title, but it cannot get much worse than it already is.

Captain Masterman’s first introduction to Alice is an enlightening one, and he tries hard to reconcile the gently bred lady’s demeanor with the harridan his niece Penelope paints her as. Edward does not know of the squalor the family has been left in, nor does he know that Alice has done her utmost best in keeping the family together, sheltered, and reasonably fed. Penelope’s petulant cry that she is always relegated to the kitchen sounds demeaning, even if the reason is that it’s the warmest room in the house. Thanks to his service at Trafalgar and the many years he’s spent away from his homeland, Edward has a great deal of catching up to do. A war hero for his years spent in service to the crown, Edward feels lost if he’s not captaining a ship, so it comes as no surprise that he has no idea where to begin in navigating his new title and estate. Quickly he learns of all that Alice has done to keep the family together, and due to the remaining servants who sing her praise, it’s not long before Edward turns to her for more than advice.

With a great deal of trepidation and not a small amount of timidity, Alice gets to know her cousin-in-law and finds that he’s not a tyrant who will bully those lesser than he. Edward has a lot to speak for him, not least of which is his honor and thoughtfulness for those in his care. Surely, he is a great captain and England is fortunate to have him! But Alice senses in him a longing to get back to the sea, even as she fights her budding emotions for him. Edward, for his part, works hard to ignore his interest in Alice, although he wants only the best for her. Rapidly, he sets to rights the household budget and sees that everyone is provided for. It consternates him how Alice constantly worries that he spends too much money on her and the family, but there hasn’t been any turnip broth since Edward’s return, to her great delight.

CAPTAIN’S LADY has a lot to recommend it, and it was my great fortune to have read one of the first offerings in Cerridwen Press’s new Cotillion line. With great attention to detail and an obvious delight for this genre on the author’s part, Alice and Edward are characters who make the reader care. One cannot help but cheer on Alice as she takes on her unknown future and shows her spirit and gumption even in the face of despair. With great attention to detail and fleshing out of the various characters who add verve and vitality to Alice and Edward’s story, Sharon Milborn displays a great talent for defining a new age for the traditional Regency romance.

Make sure CAPTAIN’S LADY is on your shopping list for your next stop at Cerridwen Press.

Ask Five with....Ruby Storm!!!!

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Wow, our latest blog guest is Ruby Storm, who writes them hotter than a firestorm. :) If you haven't read Ruby's books, then march yourself over to Ellora's Cave or Cerridwen Press and pick her up!

Read on and learn more about Ruby:

1. What is the title of your latest release and what’s it about?

My latest release is a menage novella released at Ellora's Cave. It's the second book in my Precious Gems series. Essence of Emerald is Emerald Tucci's story. Emmi has a problem. She's engaged to one sexy man. Mark Vistar embodies every woman’s dream. Tall, muscular, and handsome enough to send shivers down any woman’s spine. But still, she can’t confirm a wedding date and the reason is Jay, Mark’s best friend. She doesn’t love Jay, yet the man’s sensual magnetism has her enduring sleepless nights and rampant sexual emotions…and wondering what it would be like to have two men make love to her at the same time. To squash her wandering thoughts of a fantasy come true, she speaks honestly with Mark in hopes that by coming clean, her strange desires will be put to rest. Emmi even admits that her candor could possibly mean the end of her engagement. She never counted on Mark and his devotion to her, or the fact that he loves her enough to make her fantasy come true. For an excerpt, I'm providing a link! http://www.rubystorm.net/books-essenceofemerald

2. How do you come up with ideas for your stories?

I've got the 'writer's mind' syndrome. LOL. Rather than just look at my surroundings in an uninterested way, I find I'm always evaluating. It could be a song, a movie title, something someone might have said, or a small scene playing out in front of me in real time. My first erotica, Payton's Passion, was written on a dare from an author friend of mine. I couldn't come up with anything until one night my husband and I headed to a small town bar on a Tuesday night to have a drink. It was pretty quiet. A couple came in the back door and sat at the bar. After ordering, he simply stared mutely at the television and she quietly stirred her drink. No conversation. I glanced at her hand and yes, she wore a wedding ring. Instantly the idea to write a book about how to get the spark back in a marriage wouldn't leave me alone. I had just found my muse! The reviewers loved Payton's Passion! Here I go again -- a link for an excerpt! http://www.rubystorm.net/books-paytonspassion

3. How do you stay motivated?

Thank god that's not a problem! It's hard to shut my mind down at night. Currently I have fourteen stories with Ellora's Cave, three (a series) with Cerridwen Press and five more stories started!!

4. If you were stranded on a desert island with one of your heroes, which one would you most like to be there?

This is a toughie to answer! I love them all. But I guess if I had to choose, I could narrow it down to one of the Wilkins brothers in my historical romance Keeper series. Ah hell...I'll take all three!

5. What’s coming up in the near future for you?

I have my first gay menage coming out on March 28th at Ellora's Cave called Perfecting Pearl. This is the last book in my Precious Gems menage series. This book was a real challenge. I had to put myself into the character's head and look at all aspects of a love relationship from a man's point of view. There wasn't any 'he' - 'she'...just 'he' 'he' and 'he'. Just the mechanical writing of a sentence completely changes. I did a lot of research, talked to a lot of fine gentlemen and must say that I thoroughly enjoyed myself. I'm hoping to write another gay love story in the future. Oops, here it comes again...another link! http://www.rubystorm.net/books-perfectingpearl

I also have an erotica due out on June 1st. It's a contemporary love story called MR. FULLSERVICE and is about an older woman and a younger man and all the pitfalls they endure just to be together. I can't wait for this one to come out! My editor absolutely LOVED this story. I hope the reviewers will too!

What March book do you want?

As February winds down, I'm thinking of a book giveaway that is a little unique. You pick out the book you want and the most votes wins as the book to giveaway. Of course, it has to be contingent on me getting the book, but since I do most of my shopping at Amazon, it's pretty much a given. I also ask that a price limit be no more than $15, so most hardcovers are out, but trade paperbacks that sell at amazon for no more than $15 is okay.

And, to make it easier for you... :) You can name 3 books and they each get one vote, but only one will be picked. If there is a tie, a runoff will need to be done.

I'll give you until next Monday night at 10pm Eastern Time to make your decision. Just post in the comments here YOUR three choices of a book you want that is coming out in March.

Gabriel’s Crossing, Texas ~ Present Day

Twenty years ago, Chase Ramsey was a teenage boy spurned by the rich Elena Sanchez. Elena felt a bit guilty over her actions, but when you’re a teenage girl trying to fit in with your friends, sometimes your ego rules over your heart. Now a wealthy businessman, Chase holds the power to bring down Elena’s family’s business. She arrives at Chase’s office to beg for compassion and time to save the company, but instead, he makes her an outrageous offer: in exchange for his backing off, she will agree to be his mistress. What is even more shocking is that Elena accepts.

Chase never forgot that snub and is going to enjoy having Elena at his mercy. He figures she’s nothing but an empty-headed socialite who’ll provide him with hours of amusement in and out of bed. Much to his surprise, she’s intelligent and compassionate, and he soon finds he can’t get enough of her. The more he makes love to Elena, the harder it becomes to toss her aside as part of his revenge to acquire her family’s company and humiliate her into submission. When the time comes for Chase to make his choice, what will he decide?

Whew! What can I say about a story that is so hot it will singe your fingers? The love scenes, well, there are plenty of them, with a variety that will have readers wondering where Chase and Elena will make love next. If you think this plot sounds almost like an Americanized Harlequin Presents, then you aren’t far off the mark. Chase may appear cruel and immature for letting something that happened years ago affect him still, but, oh, my, the man is sexy as sin.

Elena may have been raised with a silver spoon in her mouth, but she’s a sweet, gracious person who suddenly finds herself with out of control lust for Chase. She doesn’t have to care what happens to her father’s company since she doesn’t even work there, but she makes an attempt to try to stave off Chase’s bid. Once she’s involved with Chase, however, Elena will do anything to keep him in bed and dreads the day he’ll drop her. The sensual interaction between Chase and Elena sizzles right from the first page of BLACKMAILED INTO BED and provides readers with a very compelling couple to enjoy.

BLACKMAILED INTO BED is loosely tied to BEDDED THEN WED, as the hero of that story, Mitch, is Chase’s brother, but each can be read alone, as there is only minimal interaction between the brothers. Heidi Betts promises a story for Elena’s intriguing sister, Alandra, and I must admit I can’t wait.

With dazzling writing and fascinating characters, all pulled together into a captivating plot, BLACKMAILED INTO BED has my vote as one of the best books of 2007 so far. I couldn’t put it down, and it richly deserves a Perfect 10 rating! I highly recommend that you put BLACKMAILED INTO BED on your book shopping list today.

Present Day

When Carrie hears the loud crash downstairs she expects many things...her boyfriend, Nathan, had an accident; a rogue vampire has broken in; the Movement which monitors and polices the behaviors of vampires has finally set an order of execution on her for not joining. She doesn't expect it to be the implosion of her life or a demonic possession.

When Nathan inextricably attacks her and can't control himself, Carrie is understandably disturbed, but more scared of what the Movement will do when they find out. It's not too long before the situation gets worse, because, of course, things like this just do. Soon, Carrie is dealing with a Werewolf assassin, a psychopathic vampire Oracle, and the discovery that her previous Sire has been brought back from the dead. It's times like this when a girl wishes she could go back to being a clueless human.

Another scintillating tale from the pen of Jennifer Armintrout, POSSESSION is a thrill ride from the first page. It literally starts with a bang and ends with a whimper, but it's the in-between that will leave readers reeling. The tale has humor, drama, romance, and adventure a-plenty for fans, but it's also got an edge that differentiates it from the genre. Although Carrie and Nathan are the main characters, this book is really made up of an ensemble cast that, together, make the plot work. Carrie, a new vampire in the scheme of things, is a complex character who makes real choices, good and bad, that we can all understand. Nathan is caught in a situation he can't control, but also one of his own making. Cyrus, Carrie's first Sire, is newly risen from the dead but has returned as a human instead of the vampire he's used to being. Max, a love-em-and-leave-em friend of Carrie and Nathan's, while somewhat of the comic relief of the tale, also grows as an individual when he butts up against an immovable force. A new addition to the crew is Bella, the Werewolf assassin, who learns that sometimes there is more to a situation than a black and white kill order from the Movement. Happy endings are rare in life where messy is the norm, and POSSESSION highlights this wonderfully.

Absolutely gripping, POSSESSION is hard to put down. Pick up your copy today and enjoy.

Ask Five with.....Sherrilyn Kenyon!!!

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

When Sherrilyn Kenyon introduced readers to the Dark Hunters, I’m sure she wasn’t expecting the frenzied feedback she's received. Readers immediately started asking her about Ash and other characters in the series. Wherever she goes to a book signing, Sherri gets a crowd that snakes out several yards. (Come on, RWA, give her a standalone table at the book signing in July!) If you haven’t read Sherrilyn Kenyon (or her alter ego, Kinley MacGregor) then you’re missing some fantastic reading.

I’m honored to have Sherrilyn Kenyon as my guest today. She has a new book out, called The Dream-Hunter. Enjoy!

1. Tell us a little about The Dream-Hunter.

In the ethereal world of dreams, there are champions who fight to protect the dreamer and there are demons who prey on them...

Arik is such a predator. Condemned by the gods to live eternity without emotions, Arik can only feel when he’s in the dreams of others. For thousands of years, he’s drifted through the human unconscious, searching for sensation. Now he’s finally found a dreamer whose vivid mind can fill his emptiness.

Dr. Megeara Kafieri watched her father ruin himself and his reputation as he searched to prove Atlantis was real. Her deathbed promise to him to salvage his reputation has now brought her to Greece where she intends to prove once and for all that the fabled island is right where her father said it was. But frustration and bad luck dog her every step. Especially the day they find a stranger floating in the sea. His is a face she’s seen many times.... in her dreams.

What she doesn’t know is that Arik holds more than the ancient secrets that can help her find the mythical isle of Atlantis. He has made a pact with the god Hades: In exchange for two weeks as a mortal man, he must return to Olympus with a human soul. Megeara’s soul.

With a secret society out to ruin her expedition, and mysterious accidents that keep threatening her life, Megeara refuses to quit. She knows she’s getting closer to Atlantis and as she does, she stumbles onto the truth of what Arik really is.

For Arik his quest is no longer simple. No human can know of a Dream-Hunter’s existence. His dream of being mortal has quickly turned into his own nightmare and the only way to save himself will be to sacrifice the very thing he wanted to be human for. The only question is, will he?

2. How do you stay motivated to write?

My hardest problem isn’t motivation, it’s getting others to leave me alone to work :) My kids and hubby won’t take no for an answer. I live to be at my keyboard and will get up early and stay up late for a chance to be in my zone. I think I’m addicted to it.

3. What is the hardest part of writing?

See the above. People tend to think because you’re working out of the house and you’re in your comfy clothes with no makeup that you’re not really “at work.” Or if I’m staring off into space, my hubby thinks it’s okay to bug me because “you’re not working, right?” Finding time away from distractions to connect with the characters is the hardest part of what I do. Although, over the years, I’ve gotten better about being able to jump right back in and to even write while watching the kids play sports. That one always cracks up my hubby who can’t figure out how I can type without mistakes and not look down. But when you’ve been doing this for 30+ years, you get a little used to where all the keys are.

The only thing worse than that is the physical pain that comes with the job. I have really bad carpal tunnel in my right wrist and a shoulder injury that pains me to no end when I type. Likewise, I have arthritis in one knee that will lock up from sitting too long. Those are never fun.

4. What inspired you to use mythology in the Dark Hunter series?

I’ve always used mythology in everything I do. I have nothing but the highest respect for the ancient writers, of all regions. The way their minds worked. The way they interpreted everything around them has always amazed me. I believe it was Newton who said “if I see further it’s because I’m standing on the shoulders of giants.” I’ve always loved taking their work and twisting it with mine.

In the case of the DH, I wanted to build my own original vampire legend and when I began seriously researching the myths of vampirism and shape-shifters, the oldest stories led back to ancient Greece. Since Apollo was the god of the sun and of plagues and curses, it was a natural tie-in. The rest, as they say, is history.

5. Can you tell readers what's in the crystal ball for Sherrilyn Kenyon and Kinley MacGregor as far as books coming out?

This year, we have several. Dream-Hunter just hit the stands and later this spring, the Dark-Hunter backlist is getting a face lift with all new covers that are incredible! They begin coming out in May and lead up to the release of the next Dark-Hunter novel, Devil May Cry which introduces a whole new breed of evil. Yeah, I had a blast writing that one. Then we have the Dark-Hunter companion that will be out in October. It’s the bible of the series and will contain all kinds of facts and tidbits about the series. Last on the Kenyon horizon for the year is Night of the Phantom which will be the last full length BAD novel. There will be one more short story with Joe and Tee. But NOTP is the last full length book for them–unless inspiration strikes.

For Kinley (it’s so weird talking about myself in the third person), the next up is The Warrior. Lochlan’s long awaited book from the MacAllisters and Brotherhood of the Sword series. It’ll answer a lot of questions for the series and will be out in October. And the Lords of Avalon comic books will begin this March–I’m so excited!!

Thanks for the interview, Sherri! You can learn more about Sherrilyn, Kinley and the Dark-Hunters by visiting their websites:

Spotlight Review on... MOON AWAKENING by Lucy Monroe

MOON AWAKENING – Lucy Monroe
Children of the Moon, Book 1
Berkley Sensation
ISBN: 978-0-425-21426-8
February 2007
Historical Paranormal Romance

The Highlands of Scotland – Medieval Times

One of the Hamilton daughters is to wed a Highland laird, and when Emily overhears her father and step-mother agreeing to send Abigail, Emily intervenes. Abigail is deaf, and Emily fears the Highlander’s wrath when he realizes this, so she offers to marry him in Abigail’s stead. Her hopes that her new husband will eventually allow Abigail to live with them are dashed when she meets the Sinclair. The man obviously hates the English and has no wish to marry Emily at all. The only friend Emily meets at the holding is the laird’s sister, Caitriona. Shortly after Emily’s arrival, she and Cait are bathing at the lake when a group from another clan shows up and kidnaps them.

Lachlan is the laird of the Balmoral clan, and they are seeking revenge on the Sinclairs. One of the Balmoral women was abducted and mated to a Sinclair without the Balmorals' blessing, and clan law dictates that Lachlan retaliate. His plan had been to kidnap the laird’s pregnant sister and let the other woman go, but the Englishwoman insists that she is Sinclair’s bride and a better captive, so Lachlan takes them both. He has never before desired a woman as much as he does Emily, but he cannot keep her, for he is a Chrechte warrior -- a shape-changer -- and he must marry a Chrechte woman.

MOON AWAKENING is the fascinating first novel of a new series by Lucy Monroe. The Chrechte in Scotland are mostly werewolves, and both the Sinclair and Balmoral clans are ruled by them. Because a betrayal almost decimated the Chrechte, causing them to assimilate themselves into the clans, they are naturally wary of outsiders. But the Sinclairs have also suffered a personal betrayal from the previous laird’s English wife, so Emily is not in for an easy time of it. She and the Sinclair do not hit it off, and she fears that he will send her back to England, endangering her sister. Being captured by the Balmoral is almost a relief to her, but she knows she will have to return to the Sinclair. Yet, the more time she spends with Lachlan, the less she wants to leave him. The chemistry between them is immediate, hot, and much more than the virginal Emily ever imagined.

A secondary romance between Cait and Drustan, Lachlan’s second-in-command, is as tempting, and as troubled, as the one between Emily and Lachlan. Cait is the widow of an arranged marriage and is stunned by the feelings she has for Drustan. Another secondary character to note is the Sinclair. During his brief appearances, he isn’t the most likable person, but he’s not wholly dislikable either, making me wonder if readers will be treated to his story in the future.

An exciting tale, MOON AWAKENING is a book I highly recommend, and I can’t wait for the next story.

E-book publishers…here today, gone tomorrow?

It seems like there are e-book publishers cropping up all over the place. I’ve heard of many of those out there, but there are dozens more that I’ve never heard of. Some have been in business a long time, while others are more recent.
Some of the more popular sites are:

Ellora’s Cave
Samhain
Triskelion
Changeling
Cerridwen
Wild Rose Press
Mardi Gras
Cobblestone

Yes, I know there are others, but these sites came to the top of my head. Some of the lesser known sites include Freya’s Bower and Chippewa Publishing. And you can bet that in 2007, more will pop up.

The big question is which e-book publishers will still be around in five years.

Question for readers:

Do you read e-books?
If yes, in what format?
Do you have a favorite e-book publisher?
Any site easier to maneuver better than others?
Finally, tell me about others that I haven't listed.

Just curious what everyone thinks. I'm all ears. :)

Spotlight Review on...FALL FROM GRACE

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

FALL FROM GRACE - Kristi Gold
Harlequin Everlasting #2
ISBN: 0-373-65404-9
February 2007
Series Romance - Women’s Fiction

Dallas, Texas - 1983 to Present Day

It was love at first sight. When Anne Cooper saw Jack Morgan across a crowded gathering, she just knew this man spelled big trouble. And when she learned he was a surgical resident at her father's hospital, she knew she would never give him the time of day.

Delia Cooper noticed that special light flicker and spark in her daughter's eyes at the same time Anne saw Jack Morgan, and she encouraged Anne to walk across the room and get acquainted. Too late, Anne tries to hide her interest in Jack and ignores her mother's prompting. Her heart might be pounding hard against her ribcage, but there is no way Anne will ever get involved with a doctor, of all people. A relationship with Jack is just a new excuse for the inevitable pain and heartache that follows while he climbs the ladder of success, leaving his heart's desire, namely her, behind in a lonely gloom.

Jack and Anne were meant for each other, but what should have been a fairy tale romance becomes a battle of wills every step of the way. They fall in love in an instant, but Anne spends too much time looking back instead of ahead to the future, even after their marriage. Cloaked in bitterness and resentment of her father's devotion to his own medical practice, Anne never really allows her love for Jack to grow. Driven by his career, Jack gives only what little time he can spare to Anne. He loves her and would never consciously hurt her, but putting his patients first causes tiny fissures that soon develop into deep chasms too wide to jump over. Now, over twenty years, one daughter, and a recent divorce later, Anne stands outside the ICU where Jack lies in a hospital bed, monitors beeping beside him. She remembers days past and ponders Jack's future. A stroke. Will he recover? Her heart bleeds for him, but turns to stone when their friend, Hank Steinberg, begs the impossible of Anne. Hank wants her to take Jack home, back to the house they once shared.

FALL FROM GRACE is the second lead title in Harlequin's new series romance imprint, Everlasting Love, that feature longer stories that take us through the first blush of new love to the trials, tribulations, and weathered storms in an enduring relationship of many years. Jack never wanted a divorce, but he goes along with Anne to make her happy. Now he feels less than half a man, unable to walk, to speak, or even read. How can he turn to Anne for help? She never really wanted him, so why would she be concerned about what happens in his future? At first, Anne refuses to allow Jack to move into her home. She's spent the better part of the last two years keeping him out of her life, but when daughter Katie (whose maturity exceeds her parents' in many ways) demands Anne allow Jack to come home, Anne relents.

FALL FROM GRACE is a powerful and emotional story and will keep you glued to the pages as we watch Jack deal with his feelings of ineptness after his stroke. Anne's refusal to admit her true feelings for Jack make for a tense atmosphere as she tries to help him through the recovery process. Several secondary characters help the story along. Anne's mother, Delia, tries to offer advice to Anne, but the catalyst in their relationship is their memories and Delia's new romance with prominent hospital attorney, Gabe. Add a couple of villains and you have a keeper of a story to cherish.

There's nothing that matches a good book and a warm fire on a cold winter's day, so be sure you don't miss this wonderful story!

Ask Five with....Susan Lyons! And a Chat!

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Susan Lyons is hot! And I'm not talking about her writing. Since she came on the scene with CHAMPAGNE RULES, she continues to shine in her writing. Her latest release is THE FIREFIGHTER, an anthology that also features stories by P.J. Mellor and Alyssa Brooks. Speaking of these authors, Romance Reviews Today will be chatting with them tomorrow night (Friday night) in the chat room at RRT beginning at 9:30PM Eastern Time (6:30PM for those in PST)
You can reach the chat room by either clicking here or going to the RRT site and clicking the Chat button. It will be in the RRT chat room (there are two other chat rooms)

In the meantime...meet Susan Lyons:

1. What is the title of your latest release and what's it about?

My February release is "Hot Down Under" in THE FIREFIGHTER (from Kensington Aphrodisia), which also has wonderful stories by P.J. Mellor and Alyssa Brooks. As you can probably guess, all three of our novellas feature sexy firefighter heroes.

My story's about a Vancouver lawyer, Tash McKendrick, who grudgingly agrees to babysit her grandmother on her trip to Australia. Little does she realize that Nana has romance on her mind - for both of them! When Nana almost burns the house down, firefighter Mick Donovan comes to the rescue. Sparks ignite and up-tight Tash suddenly discovers she has a passionate, spontaneous side. She wants to seize the day, and the firefighter. And Mick's more than willing to oblige.

I'd also like to mention another February release. I'm one of 19 writers who
contributed to DREAMS & DESIRES. It's a collection of romantic and erotic tales published by Freya's Bower. This is a charity project, with authors and editors donating their time and the proceeds going to a women's shelter. I'm very proud to be a part of it and I'm delighted to say we've been
getting great reviews.

2. Tell us about yourself.

I'm a child of the Pacific Northwest, though I think in another life I must
have been Greek because I love it there too. I'm by turns lazy and almost
obsessively disciplined and productive. I'm endlessly fascinated by people
and relationships, and the power we have inside ourselves to grow. I have
degrees in psychology and law. I love books, photography, nature, wine, dark
chocolate, cinnamon buns and long dinners with good friends. When I went to
Australia in the fall of 2005, partly on holiday and partly to do research
for "Hot Down Under," I fell in love with the place. It's fabulous!

3. Which authors have influenced you over the years, whether for their writing or for their friendship?

I'm going to start with Harper Lee ("To Kill a Mockingbird" is my favorite
book) and Dick Francis. They write fabulous heroes. To me these guys are the
true alpha males -- i.e., leaders; the kind of men whose genes you want to
be replicated. They're not arrogant, not blustery, would never bully a
woman. They're understated and modest -- and yet when it's crunch time,
they're always the ones who come through and save the day.

Other than those two, I can't possibly name names of favorite writers or
most supportive friends, because there are so many. But I definitely
appreciate my local RWA Chapters. The members have been so generous in
sharing wisdom and providing support.

4. How do you stay motivated to write?

I look out the window in the morning and see everyone heading off at the
same time each day, in their office clothes, to go to work in a high rise
with tinted windows. I really hope they love what they're doing, but it's
not for me. It took me a long time to find the thing I love doing, and it's
writing. Yes, there are lots of times when it's a pain and really stressful,
but I try to focus on the positive. Whenever I feel discouraged, I pull out
a good review or an "I love your books" email from a fan, and that reminds
me why I'm doing this and gives me the motivation to carry on. And on the
good days, when the characters come alive and take control of the story,
it's too much fun for words!

5. What's coming up in the near future for you?

I'm going to both the Romantic Times Convention and the RWA National
Conference this summer, and look forward to mingling with other writers and
readers. I also hope to have some more short stories out with The Wild Rose
Press. In September, the third book in my 4-book Awesome Foursome series
(from Kensington Aphrodisia) comes out. Think "Sex and the City," but set in
Vancouver, BC, with girls in their 20s. They're best friends and meet each
week for food, drinks and frank discussions of their lives. Each girl is
trying to figure out who she is, and wants to be, as a woman. And each book
features one of the girls in a sexy romance. There's a chick lit light and
sassy tone but there are also some serious issues like interracial
relationships, conflict with parents, and how to balance career with
personal life. The first book, "Champagne Rules," was out in Feb 2006,
followed by "Hot in Here" last August. "Touch Me" matches up a
career-obsessed lawyer (Ann) with a laid-back Greek god massage therapist
(Adonis). It was great fun to write, and I hope it'll be as much fun to
read.

Erotic Contemporary Romance - Double Book

Sex, Lies, and Bondage Tape - Saskia Walker

London, England - Present Day

Kelly Burton is a woman on a mission. Whenever she gets that look in her eye, her friends know nothing will stop her from achieving her goal. In this case, that goal is to get an autograph from rocker Clayton Warren for Kelly's friend JoJo, a true fan layed up with a broken leg. Kelly didn't count on getting caught by security. But once in his arms, she's not sure she wants him to let go.

It's the last night of the tour and security Chief Tommy Sampson was looking forward to the after party. When he catches up with the sneaky groupie, Tommy has one goal in mind, tossing her out the back door. Until he really looks at what he has in his hands and realizes the only partying he wants to do is with her, groupie or not.

When a decidedly kinky one-night stand leaves both parties wondering what they might have missed by walking away, the pressure is on. Without the other's last name, will Tommy and Kelly pursue the one that got away? Can a one-night-stand last forever?

Well, words practically escape me. SEX, LIES, AND BONDAGE TAPE is positively sizzling. Two hot bodies and some bondage tape certainly set an erotic tone that starts from the first page and doesn't let up. Tommy and Kelly are both type-A people who go after what they want and, in this case, what they want is each other. Woe to anyone who stands in their way!

Watch Me - Sasha White

Present Day

Bethany Mack is feeling a little stale and forgotten in her marriage. She heartily remembers flirting and being flirted with, but can't remember the last time it happened. Bethany loves her husband Grant, but their decision to focus on securing their future is now not looking like such a great plan since it's affecting their love life negatively. Soon, Beth finds herself taking little chances, going without underwear in the heat, that soon blossom into bigger ones, giving mini-peep shows to strangers. While she hasn't done anything wrong, is she playing with fire?

Grant Mack is disappointed and hurt when he finds out what his wife has been doing to keep herself stimulated. But when he realizes what she needs is to be dominated, he is more than man enough for the job.

Can these two rekindle the simmering fire of their passion for each other?

It's the little things we do that can radically change the course of a marriage and Bethany is on a path that could destroy the thing she wants to save. Grant's dominance is a revelation and the spark to their salvation. But sex can't heal the hurt she caused; only love can do that.

These two couples certainly don't prescribe to just the missionary position. All's fair in love and these guys go to great and erotic lengths to prove it. Sit back, watch, and enjoy!

Ask Five with....Rachelle Chase!!!

Photobucket - Video and Image HostingPhotobucket - Video and Image Hosting

It's a bit of an understatement to say Rachelle Chase is one busy lady. She has many things going on, whether she's writing or lending a helping hand to others to help them become published. If you haven't heard of Rachelle Chase until now, well, keep an eye out for her in the very near future as this rising star of romance hits big time!

Sit back and meet...Rachelle Chase:

1. What is the title of your latest (or upcoming, if that applies) release and what’s it about?

I have a short story in DREAMS & DESIRES titled “Romance for One” – about a woman dining alone at her favorite restaurant while fantasizing about the man two tables away. DREAMS & DESIRES is a charity anthology featuring myself and 18 other awesome authors, which will be available February 1st. What makes this project so exciting is: Neither the publisher, Freya’s Bower (www.freyasbower.com/content/view/132/77 ), nor the authors make a dime from this book - all net profit goes to a battered woman’s shelter in Florida.

Additionally, I’ve got two books coming out this year. My first single title, SEX LOUNGE (www.rachellechase.com/SexLounge1.html ), is about a woman whose erotic journal is discovered by the guy she’s been writing about, while SIN CLUB ( www.rachellechase.com/SinClub1.html ), my single author anthology, features three novellas tied together by a talk show called The Sin Club where the host encourages callers ‘to sin’ – in a good way. SEX LOUNGE will be out in May 2007 and SIN CLUB will be released in December 2007.

2. How do you come up with ideas for your stories?

It really varies. Sometimes, a snippet of an idea will pop into my mind and I’ll brainstorm about it. For example, I got the idea for a strip scene and brainstormed about what would make it interesting - and then it came to me, “What if the heroine thinks she’s doing a striptease for her boyfriend but it’s witnessed by a stranger, instead?” This became the opening scene for “A Sinful Striptease,” the first story in SIN CLUB.

Other times, a real-life event can trigger a story. One night, I was standing with a friend outside of a nightclub, waiting for another friend to get the car and pick us up. This guy drives by and yells his phone number out the window, asking me to call him. I roll my eyes and think, “What kind of woman is going to call some guy who shouts his name out during a drive-by?” And that’s how “A Sinful Phone Call,” the second story in SIN CLUB, was born.

3. Which authors have influenced you over the years, whether for their writing or for their friendship?

This is a tough one, for when I was a kid, my parents were always trying to get me to go outside and play, instead of hibernating in my room, reading. Some of my favorites while growing up include Stephen King, Dean Koontz, Linda Howard, Sandra Brown, Anne Mather, Kathleen Woodiwiss, and countless others. My introduction to erotica happened as a teenager, when I stumbled upon a copy of Nancy Friday’s MY SECRET GARDEN, then years later I became hooked on erotic romance when I read Robin Schone’s THE LOVER.

Since I’ve begun writing, so many authors have surprised – and honored me – with their support and friendship. I’m ever grateful to Lori Foster for selecting “Out of Control” for her online “Pick of the Week,” which indirectly led to its publication in SECRETS VOLUME 13 (www.rachellechase.com/OoC1.html ). Leigh Michaels, who started out as my romance writing teacher, has become a friend and colleague. Brenda Novak and Mary B. Morrison taught me the ropes at my first two book signings and have been my friends ever since. Calista Fox, a fellow SECRETS VOLUME 13 author, always accommodates my last-minute chapter critiques … and the list goes on.

4. You are a busy woman. Tell us a little about all that you do.

Oh boy. Maybe answering what I’m not doing would be easier. LOL
I’ve just launched a live talk show, “Chatting with Chase,” (www.rachellechase.com/ChattingWithChase.html ) which will feature monthly interviews with bestselling authors where folks can call in to participate or listen to it streaming over the Internet. I’m excited to have Robin Schone as my first guest on 2/11 at 4:30 pm PT.
In April, I’ll be teaching, “Making the Mundane Erotic” at From the Heart Romance Writers ( www.fthrw.com/workshops ). I’ll be on the Divas Dish erotica panel at the Romantic Times Convention in April and Brenda Novak and I are presenting “Aggressive Promotion for Pennypinchers” at RWA National in July. Then there’s the Sex Lounge ‘Seduce Me’ contest coming and ... Oh yeah, the day job.

5. What’s coming up in the future for you?

I’m making revisions to RUNNING AWAY, my humorous women’s fiction project, which I hope my soon-to-be agent can start sending out in March. Plus, I have two erotic romance projects, WET DREAMS and SCENT OF A MAN. And then there are proposals for two other books I’m supposed to be working on …

Thanks so much for the interview, Patti. It’s an honor to be featured at RRT!

Thanks for chatting with us, Rachelle! You can learn more about Rachelle by visiting her website at www.rachellechase.com/Home.html

Contemporary Romance

Serenity, South Carolina - Present Day

Bill Townsend, Maddie's husband of twenty years, explains their marriage is over. He is moving out of the Townsend home of five generations and into an apartment with his twenty-four year-old girlfriend who happens to be a nurse in his pediatrics office. Maddie had no idea their marriage was in trouble. Their children, teenage boys Tyler and Kyle and six year-old Katie, are just as stunned, until Tyler sees his Dad with his pregnant girl friend and learns the depths of his Dad's betrayal.

One of Maddie's two best friends, divorce attorney Helen Decatur, makes sure Maddie gets the house and proper child and spousal support. Better yet, Helen and the third friend from the group known as the Sweet Magnolias in high school, chef Dana Sue, have a plan for Maddie. They want to open a gym, a place for women to learn healthy living habits, a place to be pampered with massages and facials after an energetic workout. They convince Maddie to become the manager-promoter of the projected spa.

High school baseball coach Cal Maddox knows something is wrong with his star pitcher, Tyler Townsend. As a former big-league baseball player, he knows Tyler has the talent to go all the way to the top, but he won't get the chance if he pitches like he has been. So Cal calls Tyler's mother. It doesn't take Cal long to know he is interested in Maddie. He must be crazy. Maddie is ten years older, a mother of three, and still blistered by the burns of her marriage's ending.

Welcome to Serenity, where the citizens' lives are anything but serene and where the gossip spreads faster than the day's heat. Before she knows it, Maddie finds she is the subject of the gossips' speculation. Dealing with it along with all her other problems would be more than she could handle without her friends' staunch support.

STEALING HOME is a slice of life story that resonates within you. Author Sherryl Woods lets you come to care for Maddie, her friends, her children, and Cal while they deal with the results of a divorce and the predicaments and entanglements involved in beginning a new life. While some of the events occasionally feel serendipitous, you believe Maddie's hard work, perseverance and innate goodness make them happen. Cal knows he and Maddie are perfect for each other, but overcoming her objections, the demands of her new job, a gossip beget scandal, Tyler's anger and the school board's threat might be more than either of them can handle. An excellent keep-you-up-all-night romance.

Romance and Chocolate....

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

There is just something about romance and chocolate that goes hand in hand. Chocolate is said to have aphrodisiac characteristics, making those who consume it have feelings. Hmm...
So why do we eat chocolate while depressed?

But, chocolate does do something to us. From Wikipedia.com:
Pleasure of consuming chocolate

Melted ChocolateSee also: chocoholism
Part of the pleasure of eating chocolate is due to the fact that its melting point is slightly below human body temperature; it melts in the mouth. Chocolate intake has been linked with release of serotonin in the brain, which is thought to produce feelings of pleasure.[citation needed] Research has shown that heroin addicts tend to have an increased liking for chocolate; this may be because it triggers dopamine release in the brain's reinforcement systems[citation needed] - an effect, albeit a legal one, similar to that of opium.

Guess what? I have a box of Godiva Chocolates (15 pieces) to give away. Post and you'll be entered. Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
What I want to know is who do you think is the most romantic couple in a romance novel...
I'll draw the winner Friday night.

By the way, there is a chat in the Romance Reviews Today chat room at 9:30 EST on Friday February 9th in the evening. I will have Susan Lyons, P.J. (Pam) Mellor and Alyssa Brooks talking about their latest anthology from Kensington THE FIREFIGHTER. Get ready for a hot time Friday night!

Ask Five with....LORI FOSTER!!!

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

I am honored to have the fabulously talented (and New York Times bestselling) author Lori Foster as my Ask Five participant. Lori is a warm, generous person and a lady who’s creative mind is always working. Get to know a little more about Lori Foster:

1. What is the title of your latest release and what's it about?

The title is easy enough: Causing Havoc. What's it about? Well, um...Patti, you know I'm not good at synopsizing. The blurb says: Sports combat fighter Dean “Havoc” Connor hasn’t seen his sisters since their parents died and he was forced to move away. That was 20 long years ago. A letter begging him to come home from his sister Camille peaks his curiosity, but Dean has no interest in repairing broken family ties…or does he? Cam is thrilled to see her big brother and younger sister Jacki is intrigued. But the one who’s most interested in Dean is Cam’s best friend Eve, who’s primed and ready to sample his super-hot bod. Before they have a chance to do the wild thing, though, Dean learns of Cam’s involvement in a bad relationship. Putting family first, Dean does whatever it takes to keep Cam safe from her abusive beau. Will he also discover how truly precious family is…and that he’s ready to start his own?

I suppose I'll add that Dean is a mma fighter ala the UFC. (I call my fighting organization the SBC.) The book is very much about family, responsibility, honor and yup, romance. :-)

2. How do you come up with ideas for your stories?

I have NO idea. They just sort of pop into my head, I suppose inspired by things I see and hear. The stories all start with a character, usually the hero, and from there they just evolve until I have his background and plans for his future, etc... A heroine pops up. Complications arise. A story is born. I don't plan out my stories. I just let them write themselves. Sounds crazy, but that's pretty much how it happens.

3. How do you stay motivated?

I'm lucky in that I don't have to work at it. I've always been motivated. I'm one of those people that if I'm going to do something, I'm going to do the best I can, and I want it done yesterday. It helps a lot that my husband and sons are so supportive and proud and they encourage me a lot. Being organized is also a benefit. I've always been a daydreamer, so there are always stories in my head, anxious to be written. And all the wonderful readers really make writing fun. Readers are the "icing on the cake" for me.

4. What do you do for fun in your spare time?

I LOVE movies, and go at least once a week, sometimes twice when time permits. (Occasionally there isn't a movie I want to see, and that's always a bummer.) And I love the UFC and Pride. In March I'll be going to my first live UFC event and I can't wait. Very exciting stuff! I see most of the UFC and Pride on rentals and pay-per-view.
I enjoy drawing and painting, and being outdoors, so my husband and I (and whichever of our sons are available) go to parks and recreation areas a lot for weekend trips or just for the day to walk. We love Hocking Hills, and any caves within driving distance.

5. What's coming up in the future for you?

I have a lot of reissues out this year, and 3 new releases, and (ta dum!) my first book under the pseudonym L. L. Foster. My line up goes like this:

Feb - Causing Havoc, Berkley single title (new)
Mar - Sawyer, Morgan, Gabe, Jordan (reissues from Hq)
July - Simon Says, Berkley single title (new)
Sept - Enticing: Casey and Caught in the Act (reissue as a 2 in 1 from
Hq)
Oct - I'm Your Santa, Kensington anthology
Oct - Servant: The Awakening, by L.L. Foster, Berkley single title (not a
romance, but has romance in it.)

I'm also working on a recipe book created with donated recipes from authors and a few readers. It'll be available from my site and at my June event, the "Reader and Author Get Together." (Information on my website under community.)
This is a fundraiser to enable us to send nice packages to the troops.

And believe it or not, I really am cutting back! Next year I won't have anywhere near that many new releases. I don't think. Probably not. :-/

I WILL cut back in 07!

Big hugs to everyone!
