Sounds like a good book. Have to say I am a big fan of Lisa's historicals. I don't know that I have tried her contemporaries.

Hello Lisa,

How are you doing hun? As you know I have this book already so please don't enter me for this one. I just wanted to come by and say Hello to Lisa. Also I have a few questions :)

Q1: How do you come up with the ideas for your stories?

Q2: How long does it take for you to write a full novel?

Q3: Do you celebrate every time a new book of yours hit the shelves?

Hi everyone! I'm sorry I'm stopping in so late. I've been out of town since Monday morning, and I just got back.

Thank you, Patti, for posting the book giveaway for Let's Misbehave! I read the RRT blog every day (at least when I'm at my desk).

Jennifer, thanks for your kind words about my historicals! That's nice of you. Historicals were my first love when it came to reading romances...but then I discovered contemporaries and got hooked on those too. :)

Your blog looks interesting. I added it to my Google Reader feeds so I can check it out when I have more time.

Stacy S., you're so sweet! Thanks for reading Let's Misbehave. I'm psyched that you liked the story. I'm really proud of it. :)

Hi LindaH! It's nice to see you here. To answer your questions...

Q1: The ideas for my stories come from all over the place! Usually I dream up a character first, either the hero or heroine, and everything else builds from there. I keep an idea file w/fragments of story ideas -- things I might develop into a full book. Usually they don't make sense to anyone but me. :)

Q2: A typical novel (mine are around 400 pages), takes me three or four months to write. That's not counting the time I spend coming up with the idea, writing a synopsis, researching, etc. I'm fortunate enough to be a full-time writer, so I write M-F almost every week of the year.

Q3: You BET I celebrate whenever one my new books hits the shelves! Always. It's such a thrill. Plus I'm a big believer in celebrating all the steps along the way -- when I get a new contract, when I type "The End" on a new manuscript, when I get a nice acceptance e-mail from one of my editors...I'm up for a party. Life is short. You've got to stop and smell the roses right? :)

Jolene, thanks a million for dropping by my Web site! I try to make it a fun/useful place for readers, so if you have any kudos or suggestions for improvements that me and my web mistress can make, I'm all ears.

Also, I want to invite everyone to please visit my blog at http://lisaplumley.wordpress.com Even though I've been reading and enjoying other people's blogs for what seems like forever, I'm new to blogging on my own. It's a lot of fun. :)

aBookworm, your blogs are cool too! Thanks for saying my books are fun to read. I definitely try my best to make them fun!

Tam, Let's Misbehave was my twenty-fourth published book. I know. Unbelievable! I just celebrated the 10th anniversary of my first book's release. It was so cool.

I've written contemporary romances, historicals (set in the Old West/Arizona Territory), short contemporary romances, and several novellas in romance anthologies -- including a couple of time travel stories. This is my dream job for sure, and I feel lucky to stay so busy! Thanks for asking. :)

Lisa Plumley said...

Laurie, that's awesome that you've read Marley and Meredith's stories! I loved writing Perfect Together and Perfect Switch. I originally came up with Meredith's story first, but then I started brainstorming Marley's part in it, and the whole thing kind of veered off in a new direction from there.

I wish I had a glamorous "getting discovered" story. But the (ordinary) truth is, I just wrote and wrote (and submitted and submitted) until I found an editor who liked my take on romances. My books have some humor in them, so that can be a tough sell sometimes -- humor is so subjective.

As far as college goes...this may be weird, but I've avoided ALL creative writing-type classes. For better or worse, I'm afraid that officially learning to write might accidentally break whatever I'm doing okay now! :)

Crystal! Thanks for liking my historicals. That's so nice of you. I was just asked to contribute a story to the 2008 Harlequin Historicals Halloween anthology, so there'll be more on the way. I'm having a lot of fun coming up with my idea, and there are some other terrific authors involved too. Lucky me!

Also, pssst! I'm pretty sure you won the drawing when I was guest blogging at RR@H: http://novelthoughts.wordpress.com/2007/10/04/lisa-plumleys-book-winner/

Congrats!
